3. Long overdue
and kudos to Martin O'Malley for not fighting it. When Baltimore wanted a team back in 54, the owner of the Washington Senators didn't object. I'm glad that O'Malley let right and wrong guide his decision-making.

I think it is especially great that the team will be in Southeast Washington, in Anocostia. That area needs to be lifted up.

10. The Baltimore Orioles were originally the St. Louis Browns.
The old Senators moved to Minneapolis in 1961 and Washington received an expansion team, named the Senators, who later moved to Arlington Texas in 1972 to become the Rangers.

Washington Nationals would suit me fine. Or Senators if they can get
the name back from the Rangers, who clearly aren't ever going to use it.

6. Kinda wish it was Monterey, Mexico instead.
Would have been nice to go down to Mexico to catch a game. More of an international and honest World Series that way.

Life is a pitch, score a run.

15. Economic factors keep MLB out of Mexico
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 10:52 PM by 5thGenDemocrat
A team has to spend millions and millions of dollars on salaries and travel costs and so on and the income level of your average Mexican isn't high enough to pay the $20 or $50 a ticket. A major league team would go bankrupt in Mexico.
John
To say nothing of concession costs. A beer at Comerica Park (Detroit) costs $7.75 in order to pay for Pudge Rodriguez (darned well worth it IMHO).
Glad to hear Washington's getting a team back. I miss the Senators.
The Tigers won their 70th of the season tonight after winning just 43 all of last season. They are the first team since the Boston Braves to lose over 110 one year (115 in '35) and win 70 or more the next.

12. What is this the 3rd time they're trying with a team in DC
It won't work!

the strike killed this franchise, they would've won the world series that year, and things would've been different.

18. And the public gets screwed again
The public subsidies for these sports facilities are disgusting. The alleged benefits don't materialize because the facilities sit empty for huge stretches of time and once construction is complete only low wage employment is left behind. Maybe DC will get lucky, but I doubt it. The only positive is the slight pain Peter Angelos might feel. Attendance is down because the Orioles are a lousy team and will continue to be a bad team as long as this puffed up fool is the owner. He may know lawsuits, but he don't know baseball.

BTW, I am a Baltimorean, remember when the Colts left, and the overall fortunes of the city had nothing to with football. The money spent to steal the Cleveland Browns could have been used for other far more useful purposes. I would take major league education over major league sports any day.
