I'm rocking my new Doc Marten boots today...
and I feel thoroughly punk rock, never mind the fact that I have to wear kakis and a polo shirt to work tonight. The shoes are what give the outfit attitude.

I bought them in July for 50% off ($70) and I've been waiting until the weather was cool enough for pants. They are so comfy, it's like wearing nothing at all!

1. Wait...
... until the break-in period begins. Then you will truly know what pain is.

wysi (on my second pair)

4. Lotsa fun, them
I used to wear them exclusively for most of the 90s.

I got my first pair at Shelly's in the Kings Road in Chelsea, London, when I lived there in '91-'92. They were ten-hole laceups, and only cost £40 (about $70 then)! I broke those in at a Nine Inch Nails show at the Astoria in 1991. Kickass show. NIN opened with "Terrible Lie", and when Trent got to the first chorus the whole freaking floor began to bounce in one massive clot. Very cool.

After that, I wore a pair of 8-hole laceups as my main footwear for three years (got those at Shelly's too, in 1992, right before I came back here). After that I got a pair of square-toed shoes which I wore for work up until 1998.

I haven't worn them for about five years, but I keep thinking I may have to take up the habit again.

5. always wanted a pair
I was a punk before those were cool - I used to wear real Army boots ( boy those really hurt) and Converse and actual Beatle boots. (wish I knew where those went)

Maybe I should buy a pair. I feel like kicking some * ass lately.

6. Preach it!
Real combat boots SUCKED!!! Docs are cool, AFTER you break them in. Then I became an EMT (Wayyyy back... Before Nursing school) and started wearing Hi*Tech Magnums... Comfy... Tough... Mine have had all kinds of stuff on them... Gas, Blood, you name it... they cleaned up and look like they have never been worn....
