This is my hypothesis: There are a lot more lurkers than regular posters. Let's see if I'm right.

4. What if...

I've *way* more than a thousand posts, but I tend to do little more than lurk when my workload or the onus of a real life intrudes on my DU time?

6. I've been visiting daily since April '02

I may be taking Harlan Ellison's dictum "Beware he who writes more than he reads" too seriously, but I think just trying to absorb what I read here is usually participation enough (well, I'll be giving money as soon as I've got some to throw around); this is the most diverse (demographically and ideologically) and information-dense online community I've ever been a part of, and I always come in with the assumption that my time is better spent trying to sort signal from noise and enlarge my understanding. This board is the BS program in political science I should have pusued and never did (and most of the poeple here are unspeakably great).

9. I was really hesitant about posting at first, too

And I still read way more than I post, but if you feel like you have something to add, don't be afraid to jump in. Once you get a few people to agree with your viewpoint or commend your ideas, it really builds your confidence. I'm sure you have something to add to the conversation here.

11. I visit 2 or 3 times a week for about 8 months

Usually, I just read a little bit for 20 minutes or so, but there's been a mumber nights I get on a roll and post several posts. Slowly, ever so slowly, the post count is growing.
