Poll question: Is this the town for me?

Located in Upper Trinity South, Dildo is a very historic place that was settled in the early 1800's by Reids, Prettys, and Smiths during the 1990's, these names were still predominant names in the community.

In 1889 a permanent fisheries commission was set up for the Colony and a fishery was established on Dildo Island under the direction of A. Neilson, Superintendent of the Fisheries. This hatchery was one of the most modern and largest of its type in the world, and was designed to hatch between two million and three million cod in a season. A spawning pond was added in 1891 and a 5.5 m high wind mill to provided the power to pump sea water into the pond.

In the Twentieth Century dildo was a flourishing whaling centre until the ban on whaling in the early 1970's brought this industry to a close. The closing of the whaling industry also had an effect on the mink ranches because it depended on whale meat as a cheap source of food. In 1955 an entire mink farm was transported from Lester Island, near Vancouver, to Dildo but in the late 1960' rising feed prices forced the ranches to close. Dildo has changed a lot since the 1800's mainly of its economic growth. There are a lot more businesses and resources that have been created and up-dated since this time. There are 2 stores in Dildo and there is another little store that should be open in the next month or two. There are about four or five people in Dildo who have started their own businesses which continues to grow.

Even though Dildo doesn't have a town council it still has many resources and regarded for its activities. Dildo has it's own swimming pool, an S.U.F. lodge, and Lions Center. There is also a baseball field but it's old and falling down so it is rarely used. Every year Dildo celebrates Canada Day and our own Traditional Dildo Days. These events are held on the swimming pool grounds where there are many activities, such as games, swimming, hot dogs, cold plates, and much more. As you can see Dildo is a very historic and traditional community.

I'm happy that you're having such fun with Dildo. Sometimes it just takes a stimulating environment to really get the juices flowing and I can see that you'll be back to Dildo again and again.

For our part, all of us WetWangers are pulling together. As you know, we've had inclement weather and the WetWang Canal is threatening to burst most spectacularly. It sounds like things are a lot hairier here than there. The fine lads of the Royal Navy have come by to lend a hand - yes, there's seamen everywhere - and it's thought that the wonderfully-constructed dike here will prevent particularly bad flooding.

It's a bit of a sticky wicket here, though - I've already gone through a couple of sets of rubbers. I'm actually typing with one hand because I'm vigorously working my pump with the other.

Frankly, I am quite looking forward to coming back to Los Angeles for some In 'n' Out. Anyway, just give me a shout when you're coming....

I'm so happy that you're having such a good time down there. I wish that I had some In 'n' Out here, but it makes me feel good to know that at least you're getting some, thanks to Dildo. WetWang is known through the British Isles for its jolly good spotted dick, though, so at least I won't go hungry.

Well, it's increasingly apparent that I can't keep up with you Dildo types, either. It's been more than a bit sticky here, too - and there've been times when I found it hard to tell whether I was coming or going - but everything's still well in hand. I can tell you one thing, now that I've been a WetWanger for a while: I highly doubt that WetWang could ever replace Dildo in your affections. It's like you were made for each other. Just to take some time to reflect upon things and enjoy life and the scenery

NSMA -. A visit to Dildo might just be the place to rub down the throbbing point that I can’t quite place. I’d venture to guess you could help put a finger on it. The thought of coming to that realization is indeed very stimulating. If my visit perhaps coincides with the surging tide that overwhelms Dildo on occasion, my finger will be in that dike most assuredly. You can count on my help.

Forrest – Wetwang is an interesting town as well. I have visited this fine town in the past and I must say there are some explosive opportunities in Wetwang. It’s really difficult to describe – you just about had to be there. The only caveat I see with another spurt with Wetwang is who is selected as the tour guide. This selection can make all the difference between coming and going with Wetwang. I most appreciate the more experienced tour guides. They seem more inherently inclined to visit the places that I find more fulfilling to the visit. There are some good tour guides in Wetwang.

For example, I have to wonder what life is like in Crappo (Maryland), Big Ugly, (West Virginia), and - especially - Satan's Kingdom (Vermont). That Gun Barrel City and Looneyville are both in Texas makes me a little concerned, too.

If I had to pick, I'd choose either Cool (California) or, of course, Yak (British Columbia).

And then there are the very topical ones, that seemed almost to predict the coming of the simian one....towns from the UK named Drunkendub, Dubheads (a.k.a. Bush supporters), and Duffus. And - sorry for the imagery - Pickles Gap, Arkansas.

One of the more entertaining novels I have read is "The Shipping News" by E. Annie Proulx. It was made into a movie starring Kevin Spacey, which I have not seen. It provides a view of Newfoundland outport life that manages to be hilarious and melancholy at once. Who knows? Perhaps the fictional town of Killick-Claw was based on Dildo...
