Bush is an insult to every intelligent Republican in this country.
Please don't hate Republicans because of Bush*. Just the idiots who call themselves Republicans without knowing what they are supposed to be for.
I have been a Republican for over thirty years and have seen the party at it's best and at it's worst.
I am a Real republican because I support the fundamental ideals upon which our party was founded. I am disgusted that too many ‘Republicans’ don’t even know when their party was founded let alone on what ideals.
If you are a Republican and you don’t know this, don’t bother looking it up. Perhaps I can help;
The first official Republican meeting took place on July 6th, 1854 in Jackson, Michigan.
The Republican Party went national in 1856 when it fielded its first Presidential candidate, John Freemont. Their slogan was, "Free soil, free labor, free speech, free men, Fremont."
What this meant was if you had the brass to strike out into new territory and tame it – that territory was yours.
The Republican Party was responsible for bringing about the emancipation, equal protection and voting rights of those who would make the journey from servitude to access.
Republicans also fought for women’s suffrage and were a major force in passing the 19th amendment.
Republicans have historically presided over balanced budgets and prosperity.
The Republican Party has historically been outspoken against going to war.
The Republican Administration of Eisenhower oversaw the desegregation of schools and sent troops to Little Rock, Arkansas.
He said, “There must be no second class citizens in this country.”
So what the Hell happened?
If Republicans gave a thought to their origins they would know they are the ones who would stand up for personal liberties. They would not disfranchise people for their lifestyles, beliefs and financial circumstances.
They are the original party of ‘an ye harm none, do as ye will’. If you are a Republican you should know what that means, in which case you should also realize that such a philosophy is no longer in practice in your party.
When ‘Republicans’ become the party of suppression we are in dire straights indeed.
Banning people from the pursuit of happiness when they harm no one is very un-republican.
Casting the ideas and lifestyles of others as ‘evil’ while not having dealt in earnest with those individuals is petty and graceless.
Assuming those who disagree with you are not patriots is childish, they may know something you don’t.
Ignorance is VERY un-patriotic.
Learn about your issues before you claim to be in my party.
Talk to people on the ‘other side’ and understand their perspective before you claim to be Republican. You may SAY you understand – but if you have demonized anyone at all, you do not.
If you say ‘Those Liberals’ are like this and ‘The Conservatives’ are like that; if you claim that ‘they’ want to do ‘this’ or ‘that’ to the country, then you do not understand what ‘they’ really want.
The fact is – you have become ‘them’ too.
When questioning an incompetent leadership is ‘unpatriotic’, we are doomed to support despots. That is also un-Republican.
I believe my party should be the forward-thinking party it was meant to be.
The Republican Party is the party that looks for ways to secure the future for all, and while we may disagree on how that is done- it is wrong to think that anyone should be disenfranchised to achieve such an end.
Yes a price must be paid for freedom, but it should be known what that price is and what it is really for BEFORE it is paid by anyone.
When we must be misled in order to accomplish a greater good- no real good will come of it.
As Americans we are ever on guard for manipulation, corruption, and ineptitude.
We see such things everywhere, on all sides of every issue.
We understand that powerful forces are determined to subjugate this country to their will.
We must not let that happen. In order to keep that from happening we must listen earnestly to one-another, not dismiss well thought out positions out-of-hand.
We need very much to begin to see our lives as part of a greater world, and our futures as more than simply our own, but that of our common survival as a Human race.
There is no question that this current administration is NOT Republican, yet so many who call themselves Republican blindly and unquestioningly support this administration whose failures are in excess of any reasonable margins for error.
I could get deeply into why this Administration is Plutocratic and not Republican, how this Administration has contradicted nearly every word with their actions, has made the world a far more dangerous place on top of already existing threats, and how they have betrayed nearly all true Republican ideals…but there are enough facts out there for a true, thinking Republican to see for his or herself.
http://www.irregulartimes.com/realgop.html - the facts here are worth checking.
I’m afraid that most so-called Republicans will dismiss this however and stay in the nice, comfortable thought-bubble they’ve been placed in.
If you make no attempt to see for real – you can stop calling yourself a Republican.
Ignorance has no place in my party.
