I got a chance, 2 years ago, to take my lovely wife to Hawaii... actually, I take that back, my wife won a radio contest; a week in Hawaii, hotel room, rental car, air fare...my ship got back from deployment Sep. 15th, we would have left on the 18th.
And then 9/11 happened.
We never did go.

24. FYI, a little history

When the Arabians conquered Iraq many centuries ago, they brought their language with them. There are still minorities descended from the original population that speak Assyrian, Kurdish, and a number of other languages, but the vast majority of the country is of Arabic descent and speaks that language.

Also, the Koran pretty much states that Arabic is the language of Allah, so all Muslims are taught Arabic as children, whether their region is Arabic speaking or not (while you can buy translated Korans, most devout Muslims consider them blasphemous and prefer to read the Arabic version). This immersion in Arabic means that all Muslims, even from regions as different and distant as Morocco and Pakistan, have a common language that they can confer in (to some extent, most Muslims aren't fluent, but they understand the basics).

Europeans used to be the same way with Latin BTW.
