I've got to find something better to do
This has been a refreshing place to hang. But posting stories with zero response is having a real negative effect. I spend time when I post and I spend more time in reply to other posts. Maybe I haven't given it time enough. These soldier posts get an incredibly short response. I try to put the blame on myself, but I can see that these posts don't rate like the candidate flame wars. Posts on the environment rate even less of a response. It's a lonely thing to post with no reply. At least I can get a discussion on the conservative board (after wading through the insults).

So, goodbye DU. I'll look in from time to time, but n/t.

Don't be hurt. It's not you, it's me.

1. stick around
I remember when I first started posting, no one would ever respond to my threads either

it takes time--have you been posting to other threads? it's just like anything else, you have to get your name out

and if you really need something to do, you can come and clean out from underneath my bed--I have whole families of dust creatures breeding and reproducing!

:bounce:

2. Hello bigtree!
Sorry if you're bailing. Maybe you already have.

I, too, have posted threads with zippo effect. You do sort of wonder what the hell you're doing here. But I keep on. Every so often somebody responds. Not sure what to do to get attention, other than to masquerade as Will Pitt or somebody. But don't lose faith.

3. BigTree, hang in there.
I suspect lots of us who aren't the oldtimers feel ignored, but that doesn't mean what you have to say isn't significant. I, for one, wish you'd hang around. :)

5. Then there are the times you make a
minor off-the-cuff remark, and find yourself immersed in a flame war!

12. I'm sure that's never happened to you
;-)

Y'all gotta hang in there. There's so many people here, it really is hard to stand out, but if you're consistent in the quality of your posting, people will start to click on your threads and respond. I can't count the number of times I've been the last one to post on a thread. I'm a bona fide thread killer.

6. Yeah, if you're going to subject yourself to freepers...
...just to get responses, the flame wars here are infinitely preferable!

:hi:

Hope you'll stick around!

P.S. What subjects did you post?

7. I have responded to your posts.
:-)I too am an evironmentalist. Unfortunately in GD if people aren't into the topic of the moment they will ignore those posts not current. Right now it's about candidates and the California recall.

Try posting on the environment forum. You won't get a lot of replies, but those who do are interested in what you have to say. Also, they stay up longer because they don't move so fast so they are there for awhile for all to read, which brings me to another point. A lot of people read and don't reply, so you are getting your word out and it is being seen.

8. I found your other post.
Through June, July, and August the responses to posts concerning our soldiers have gone down. But there is a group on LBN that is watching closely as the casualties mount. Hang in there.

It's the same for everybody. Try some of the other board areas. Posts stay up longer and generate more interesting discussion over time. GD is a quick hit board that does tend to appeal to the worst in folks. IMHO.

I've enjoyed your posts.
It's just that sometimes you've said all the things that need to be said already....
and I'll feel like a kluz for adding nothing to the thread.

11. I rarely post to GD anymore
The thing about GD is that most people only look at the first page, unless they are searching for a particular thread. And unless a post catches fire almost immediately, it will slide right off the first page in a matter of minutes, and then nobody ever sees it again.

I was looking for a thread that interested me from JUST YESTERDAY, and I had to go back to page 8 -- EIGHT -- to find it. Eight pages of thread titles just for one day.

Consider posting to the Lounge, if appropriate (or actually, if INappropriate), or to one of the other topical forums. Posts have a longer shelf life there.

Personally i couldnt give rats *** about soldier stories.. they have about as much value as the freeper emails where some freepers kicks out some professors from a coffee shop and everyone applauds.

They are made so your own "side" will get a moral boost, adding nothing of real value.

But ill admit candidate bashing etc doesnt exactly top my list either.

14. Hey now, Kamika -- you usually show more sensitivity that this!
If BigTree has an "agenda," it's because he's a veteran, and has a vested interest in seeing events from that perspective. He certainly hasn't engaged in any vainglorying from what I've read of his posts.

Let's give this guy a chance!

17. man, you are so off
I didn't look twice at a soldier until the idiot Bush started this war. What do we protest for? The money spent? Iraqi lives? I went straight to support for soldiers because of my fear that the republicans would use them to divide us and our anti-war campaign from a fearful America. If you could see me here. I'm one of the original hippies. We called ourselves freaks. Without my focus on the soldiers I would probably have too much fun in protesting Bush and this insane war. I was such a violent protester when I was young.

The soldiers keep me grounded. And I've learned a lot about these people over the past year. The same interests who are screwing these folks are screwing the rest of us. These soldiers were put at the frontline of the military industrial warriors battle for world domination. They will give their lives for their dedication to our country. They are waiting for an honest leader who won't sacrifice life for a buck. They will be there to defend us against any true agression against our country. God bless our soldiers. The rest of us have an easier job here. Rage.Rant.Resist.

here's what I've been doing since I broke down and bought a computer this past winter: http://www.returningsoldiers.us

Thanks DU. See Ya!

18. Its not the soldiers its the kind of posts
Every post with like.. "LOOK WHAT THEYRE DOING TO OUR KIDS(soldiers)" or "today my freeper neighbour said something bad about bush" topics are imo just our versions of
"patriot americans kicks out commie pinko librul professors from a cafe that badmouthed our glorious leader bush"
