Question about the recent wave of viruses and how to get rid of them
I have firewalls and antivirus, but two people at work have now, for over a week, not been able to use their computers because of what has got to be the recent sobig virus. They will run and connect for only a few minutes at the most before the internet connection is dropped. I downloaded a free antivirus on disk to run a scan, but it only got through 56 files before it froze up too.

Where would I go to download onto my disk repairs for these various monster viruses? How can I get them loaded into a machine that keeps shutting down every few minutes? (They are on dial up)

Thanks for your help and

To anyone who read my post about women the other night, I apologize for being and sounding so ignorant. I couldn't even bear to read the thread when I checked back later.

Thanks again.

But if you came back and saw what it had become, the courageous thing would have been to step in and try to rescue it.

I'm sorry if you were having a bad night when you posted it and hope things are better today.

On edit: I have no idea what the answer to your question is.

2. I was a chicken - I didn't even look at it.
I should have, but truly thought it would die a quick death. Won't happen again!

3. Live and Learn, It is funny in a way
Sometimes we post something that we think shows us as brilliant and no one reads it. But then we post something silly and go to bed and in the morning cringe because every member of DU has read it and commented. You can laugh about it in the future. Some posters later post a topic just about the apology--I'm not of that school. But I have noticed they tend to get lots of "nice" support if they are apologetic enough. Maybe you could try that if you still feel uncomfortable.

Here are 2 links that I got from DU, I have used them and so have others. But they are not for the virus you are looking for:
.Blaster.Worm and W32.Welchia.Worm are worms that exploit vulnerabilities (described in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-026 and Microsoft Security Bulletin MS03-007) in Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Windows XP.

We know that a great number of our customer's PCs have been infected by these worms. To help you fix you systems we have placed programs on our web sites that will take care of the problem on your systems.

Remember these fixes are for Windows XP, Windows 2000, and Windows NT.

Symantec utilities that will scan for and remove the worms are available by visiting the following links:

W32.Blaster.Worm: http://www.gulftel.net/tools/fixblast.exe
W32.Welchia.Worm: http://www.gulftel.net/tools/fixwelch.exe

4. Do a windows update
that's the real problem. You can get rid of the viruses and immediately get re-infected if you don't patch.

6. I think I've educated them with my limited knowledge
and great paranoia enough that they won't go into the world unprotected again (assuming they ever get those machines functioning again!.
