Poll question: What's Your Limit?
How many cocktails (or beers) can you drink before you voluntarily cut yourself off and say "None for me thanks... can you cab a call for me?"

2. I'm A Lightweight... No Tolerance At All
Two stiff drinks, I'm giddy and playful. Three or four, I get slurred and clumsy (unable to drive). Five or six... you'll have to roll me into a cab (with an airsick bag).

25. Thats sort of like me....
One drink is just enough to relax me.
I rarely have a drink. The only time I really ever drink is if I go out for a fancy steak dinner at Merlino's Belvedere (shameless plug). I'll have a whiskey on the rocks. Yum, Some say it tastes like lighter fluid, but having never tasted lighter fluid, I really can't make a comparison.

4. 2 should be the correct answer
The actual answer is between 6 and 8. I rarely drink now. I think that it would be unhealthy if I did drink regularly. I don't want to go down that road. I have enough problems as it is.

I never drive when I drink anyway (99.95% of the time). But I used to be a bartender, and I would make the rounds after most of my shifts, visiting other bartenders in my casino and around town. Easily 8 - 15 all the time.

Don't drink much now, but I remember 2 instances. One was when I was living in NYC: I lived in lower Manhattan, East River next to the Brooklyn bridge. Went up to Harlem with some friends and spent the night drinking. Getting home involved 3 subway transfers and a five block walk - only thing I remember about the entire trip was tripping and falling on my face in front of police headquarters.

The other was in Italy. For some strange reason (I was a sailor (well, coastie) at the time) I decided I was going to have one of every single drink they had on the wall (not necessarily mixed, just a shot, or however they were most commonly made) - I actually drank myself sober, and drove the 22 kilometers back to my station. Thank goodness Italian bars are more "coffee" bars without as much alcohol as you'd find in others.

6. My tolerance is constantly changing
It all depends on how much I've had to eat, how tired I am, what I'm drinking, what I'm doing when I'm drinking and what time of the month it is, as estrogen affects alcohol absorbtion.

9. It depends.
I always err on the side of caution and usually only have one if I know I'm going to drive. The problem is, my favorite restaurant that makes my favorite margaritas will skimp on the alcohol one night and then over do it the next time, so I really just have to watch how I feel when I'm drinking those. :)

10. I voted three, but
..one of my Liberal drinks is equal to two or three wimpy Republican drinks.

I haven't had a drink before driving in years though.

11. I've got a very high tolerance

10 years ago I don't think that there was a person in the world who could drink me under the table. (It's really something stupid to brag about...it's actually sort of sad.)

Three reasons:

1. I've always been heavyset...sometimes it's muscle and sometimes it's fat. Weight helps when drinking a lot.

2. Pretty much during the 90's I would drink a lot every night. So even though I naturally had a higher than normal tolerance, I made it even higher through "rigorous" training.

3. Except for the last few years, I've always been in good shape. That can help your tolerance, too.

_____

Now that I'm married with kids, I might drink only once every two months or less. I usually have 6 or less, then go to sleep. I could probably handle 10-12, but I don't want to drink that much anymore.

12. Same Here... After A Certain Point, I Become Listless And Sleepy...
some folks I know become sad and melancholy... others just get silly and sloppy. Fortunately I've known very few folks who are mean and angry drunks.

16. I'm a happy drunk.....I laugh a lot and get horny when I'm drunk.

I've never started a fight when I've been drinking, although I've been in several because I would put myself in those type of situations, or I had friends who would start one.

When I drink I either want to have fun, party, or get laid...not to start shit. I hate people who get drunk then get violent or asshole-ish (is that a word?).

19. Horny? You rascal... lucky you!!!
"Happy" is one of the stages that I briefly pass through before heading straight to "sleepy". I never get to "horny" anymore.

13. Allen, six is when I am just getting started...
twelve and I sing karaoke--"Don't ask her on a straight tequila night" :-)

But if I drink more than two, it is a planned thing, and someone else is driving.

I don't drive with even two in me. Seen too much tragedy in other people's lives to do so.

14. I just can't drink anymore....
Edited on Sat Oct-16-04 11:06 PM by Heyo
... it just makes me ill and doesnt give me the buzz anymore.

I had a beer the other night (tried to) at a birthday party held at the dog track. I drank it.. I ordered a second but by that time I was regretting the first one. I gave the second one away without taking a sip. Felt awful.

All this from a guy who used to drink *3* quarts of Old English EVERY night, along with my 2 best friends who did the same, and smoking all night too. This what when I was about 17, we were some wily youngsters. (understatement of the year)

But that was many years ago, and a lot has happened between now and then... drug problems, detox, recovery etc. (not surprising) And now, bleeechh! Alcohol feels like poison in my body.

:puke:

Heyo

When I get drunk, I act like a fucking moron (some people might say I act like that when I'm sober)

My tolerance is getting less and less.

23. I don't know.
It's not that I don't drink, I just get really, really bored around the whole drinking culture- bars, clubs and parties. I don't think I've ever had more than four drinks in a night and I wasn't really drunk from any of them.

So my boredom limit hits long before my alcohol one ever does.
