jukes misspoke. i hate when i do that; hence, this retraction:

i stated my belief that hyenas were capable of changing sex due to population pressure. when pressed, i admitted no provenance for the statement & realized that i'd probably promoted a myth.

googling revealed a plethora of pages that explained this misconception. apparently, female hyenas possess a "pseudo-penis"; the clitoris of the female has become enlarged and taken on the size & shape of the male hyenas' genitals. supposition is that this, in some manner, aids the female in dominating males; the claim is that hyena packs are matriarchal. i will *not* posit this as fact, i've already made myself an ass on the topic; i merely repeat what my web research has disclosed.

not a big point, probably won't alter any1's life, but i detest the quoting of urban legend as fact, & this was a close approximate.

*not* scavengers, generally when they're observed fighting w/ lions over a kill, it's the lions trying to rip them off. knew of that fact someX ago, confirmed by today's research before i quoted it here.
