5. Have you had any relatives affected by c.m.'s
IF so - you're very restrained.

If not - be happy - but you wouldn't know....

6. I think that this should be in GD or another "serious" forum....

I appreciate the frustration and anger being felt, but this is a very odd way to bring up and discuss such a serious topic.

8. Blowing off steam = good......but.........
this is a very odd way of going about it.

Does it annoy me? Not at all. It puzzles me. Such a serious topic, so many things to talk about.......I know that when I've read articles about child molesters or seen a story on the news I've turned to friends and expressed my outrage and frustration about it, and come up with various appropriate punishments.

I just find it odd that introducing such a contentious topic to the Lounge discussion board without any context or explanation is an effective way to release anger.

Still, each to his/her own. I hope you feel better now.

9. "various appropriate punishments"
Yes - that is all so benign. And that is what the court system is supposed to do for us. Be the ones to met out "various appropriate punishments".

But what does that leave victims and their families and friends to do.

Nothing. OH - there are probably support groups or something. I've thought about volunteering for agencies that help abused women. I am afraid that seeing more victims would make me more depressed. But maybe I will, anyway.

I know - I'm not giving context and am letting you guess. But thats the nature of this sort of thing. People really don't like to talk about it.

I'll just say - at least he is in jail.

13. Bloom,
sweetie, be kind and caring to yourself. And don't push yourself to volunteer if you're needing help yourself...not until you're ready.

16. part of what sucks
is that I was thinking of volunteering because of what was going on with one relative, and then I was close to a situation where the woman was killed by her abusive husband (who also killed himself) - so I was thinking of what I could do to honor her, and now another relative....

I'll have to find something to do - I think having direct contact with more victims would not be it - for me.

14. In my defence, "various appropriate punishments" didn't mean jail...
I meant the punishments that I would deem appropriate, not one handed down by a judge.

Ever hear the song, "I wish them all dead" by the Wonderstuff?

"Here's to the MBLA, I wish them cancerous decay, that puts an end to their days,
It's time to pick up a knife, or any weapon you like,
To put an end to their lives, Pick on someone your own size!
You know I wish them all dead."

That doesn't even come close......I'm surprised you restrained yourself to attacking them with a lump of wood, that was partly what confused me - the specific choice of hitting them with a 2x4....

My mum is a kids' social worker and I don't know how she keeps her sanity with the things she hears about....I suppose she survives it because she knows she's helping to stop it.

Peace and strength.

17. Wishing him dead....
The mother wishes him dead and I don't blame her - I'm sure I would, too, if it were my daughter. For the daughters part - the perpetrator is her father. (There are other victims, also). So there has to be conflict - wishing him dead.

For my part - I'm doing well to direct my anger at child molesters and not to generalize to larger groups of innocent individuals.

My husband prosecutes child molesters - while upsetting, at least there is satisfaction when he wins the case.

I'm counting my blessings that I never got involved with any @%#^&#er's.

10. One instance in which I agree with Dennis Miller
If you have an overwhelming urge to xxxx kids and refuse to get help, do society and yourself a favor- kill yourself.

11. There's a series of crime novels you may wish to check out
Edited on Thu Sep-11-03 11:21 PM by NightTrain
Namely, the "Burke" series by Andrew Vachss. The protagonist has an almost pathological hatred of those who abuse and exploit children. In his capacity as an unlicensed PI, Burke has pursued and mercilessly dispatched with more child molesters than you can shake a stick at.

Do to its extreme nature, I wouldn't recommend the Burke series to just anyone. But you strike me as somebody who would devour these books as voraciously as I do. For more information, check out www.vachss.com.
