The Death Of Romance: Focus Group Dating
My friend Rob called me earlier to tell me about this dating service he tried, wherein after the date, he and his date filled out "surveys" afterwards gauging each others compatibility and what they liked about each other.

He went on and on about how great it was, and I was just appalled. How the fuck can that be any fun? Why are we lowering dating to the level of focus groups?

Someone, please reassure me and tell me this is an isolated wacko thing here. Blind Date and shit like that is bad enough, but this is just depressing.

1. The other night you posted how miserable you were
because you can't find the right female. Perhaps you should consider trying the service yourself. :P Hey, I'm only being slightly tongue- in-cheek with this reply.

2. I'll date you, SZJ!
Please bring two sharpened Number 2 pencils to the Olive Garden in Casper, Wyoming ;)

Seriously, that is kind of weird. Then again, my co-worker met a guy she's been dating for almost 2 years now via Yahoo! Personals (this is in a midwestern town). Then again, again, there were no exit surveys involved -- I agree that's creepy.

3. Yeah, it really sounds kind of cold.
I am so out of the dating loop, been divorced a long time, but I don't think I could go that route. It's almost a clinical approach to dating that leans towards desperation. I always met people thru friends that had friends, people used to have parties, now it seems like everybody comes home from work, locks their door, pulls the blinds and gets on their computer or watches the tube. This cocooning phenomenon that seemed to have took roots a few years ago has definitely made it harder for people to meet.

in the big D.

Been here six years and not a date yet.

Tried all sorts of dating services, no joy yet.
