I just got an e-mail from my Mom.

She and my dad live in northern WI.
(They live in FL during the winter.)

But my Dad caught a fish yesterday.
Not just ANY fish, a "Muskie."

It's 54 inches long!!! :wow:

Not a record, but wow!

No pictures of it yet to show, (my parents still use film,) but if I get a photo of my Dad holding that BFM I'll see if I can post it somehow.

And yes, they are going to have it mounted for display.

Large critters eat smaller ones, and that's true especially among fish.

I mean, just think of all those innocent, beautiful plants you've killed, just so you could eat them!

And fishing for panfish and then eating panfish is a lot of fun.
Catching something larger is a rare and wonderful experience.

6. Muskies are so awesome

My grandfather caught one just shy of 50" when I was 12. He had to have help hauling it over the side of the boat and I almost sh*t when it landed at my feet.

They were his favorite fish to catch and usually a big one is a once-in-a-lifetime event.

My Hubby caught a 45 inch male Muskie from the Allegheny River a few winters back. I guess it's huge for a male, cuz the females are bigger. It's mounted and in my living room, along w/all kinds of fishies.

I'd love the details too. Hubby will be curious,lol.

14. Ok, the details I was able to get so far...

My Dad was about in the middle of the flowage, with deep water under.
(He fishes like that for crappies.)

Mom was in the boat also.

He was using minnows.

It was early evening. (About 6 or 7)

He fought the thing for a long time, he doesn't know how long, but it took quite a while until he finally got it into the net and it took both my Dad and my Mom to pull it into the boat.

That's about all I know so far.

My parents live on a lake in Chetek, north of Eau Claire. No muskies, but occasionally a BFN or a BFB or a BFW (Northern, Bass, Walleye) but not too often. They've lived there 20 years and pretty much always catch and release unless it's a HUGE one like your Dad's.

Never eaten it myself, but I did try Northern Pikes.

They aren't that good eating.
