Saw them live in 1982 at a small club here in NY. IIRC they were 2 guitars a bass and keyboard (no drums). Even so, I definitely suffered some permanent hearing loss at that one. Those were some SERIOUS power chords they were hitting in "I Ran".

and not meant as a personal criticism or anything but let me just get on my soapbox for a minute.

With the budget cuts in education it seems to me that (classical) musical appreciation has gone completely away. Very few younger people are even aware of the fine musical history of even the American culture. I think every child should know some Gershwin, some of the dead German classics and some show music. I'm sorry that Jazz is not also as well known as it should be with fine artists like Chick Corea still performing.

We are becoming a society that is ignorant of art. I don't say this to dis popular music, not at all. I like most kinds of popular music as well. It's just that historical perspective is so cool and that is what being an educated person is all about.

Beginning with Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana & Pearl Jam (a crossover). There was a renaissance in music from about 1991-1996. Lots of creativity. Lots of one-hit wonders, too. But a great rock sound.

Then the Cardigans came and ruined the party.

I do despise rap, although I appreciate it as music young people listen to to piss off their parents, like Heavy Metal in my day. It's just not my music.
I like some country, but not much. Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn (only because of the movie "Coal Miner's Daughter") are about it for me.

There're still a lot of people who listen to, and radio stations that play, pop music from the 70's, the 60's, and even some from the 50's. Now when I was a high school/college kid, in the 60's, that would've been equivalent to the radio stations playing pop music from the 30's, the 20', and even the 10's. Maybe I wasn't paying attention, but I don't recall that happening. Why is that? 60's music was that much better than 20's music?
