question about Johnny Cash
I was talking to a friend of mine about the news and she and I were talking about how sad it was that Cash had passed away but that he was now with his beloved June..

However my friend informed me that he had been married before (didn't really know that before today) and that she was sure that the woman was an african american and that there had been some controversy over it...and that it was one of many reasons why Cash wasn't so beloved by some of the country music establishment...

Now I know very little about him...but have loved his music...so is this just a rumor?...I am waiting for a biography program to come on tonight in order to learn more about him and to see if my friend is just messing with me...

1. That is so classic of the right wing Republican mind set
who fucking cares who his first wife was, I have no idea. Like many people he had a marriage that didn't work out. Big fucking deal!

Screw the Republicans who condemn Johnny Cash, a true American folk singer.

3. actually the person who told me this is a big fan of Johnny's and
is a democrat...

To be honest I normally don't know much about movie stars or singers beyond the fact that I like their music....How my friend brought this up was the fact that I told her...that I felt bad for Roseanne Cash...burying her mom and her dad....my friend informed me that Roseanne was not June's daughter...dumb me...I didn't know that...

That is how the conversation came up...

5. Perhaps the rumor is a confusion with the fact
that Johnny Cash was the man in Black. or the first black country singer, much like Clinton being the first black president.

6. Yes, it really doesn't matter
what his first wife was like.

He wasn't liked by the Nashville establishment for a variety of reasons. But that's what endeared him to millions of us.

11. the Nashville establishment played Johnny Cash songs
on every radio station all day today.

a case could be made that "the Nashville establishment" doesn't like any of its stars

13. Johnny Cash and his first wife lived in my area and raised their kids here
I didn't know that until I read the local paper this morning.

14. I watched a bio program of him last night that was really cool
I think it was on some country music channel..

It was really interesting to see how broad Cash's interests were...
His fight for prisoner's rights, native american rights and how he would tour with Pat Robertson...but also was an advocate for the peace movement of the Vietnam War era...

A very complex, intelligent artist...

The cave story creeped me out though... I have a deep fear of caves...
