Okay, so what happened with Ashlee Simpson on SNL this weekend?
I'm hearing hints that it was like a new Milli Vanilli thing going on. She was lip-synching to the wrong song or somethin, right? Someone explain.

If this is true, it's a harbinger of good things to come, just like Milli Vanilli's malfeasance and consequent banishment from the pop stage signalled the coming end of "pop" dominance for a good eight years or so, and more rock and authentic musics reaching a wider audience.

6. I made an educated guess.
Based on the fact that she was a musical guest on SNL that might be involved in a lip synching scandal. And also based on the fact that I had never heard of her, thus indicating her "played on the radio every twenty minutes" status.

3. As far as I know she was lip-synching to her own voice
On that count it's not as bad as Milli Vanilli.

5. The sound person played the wrong track and she got caught
lip-synching. But the funniest part was watching her try to dance. LOL!! What a pop tart!

7. Heard it on the radio this morning
That they were to sing the second song (don't know what name because I don't know any of her songs) but anyway music started coming on of another song (I thought it was the 1st song that they did) anyway the music was playing (even though there was a band there with her) and supposedly she was a bitt upset kind of did a hippity hoppity dance or pout (her voice was singing this song that was being played but her mike was at about her navel) and then she went off stage. At the end of the show she did come out with Jude Law (the host) and he tried to make light of it and she blamed it on her band?!?!?!

I didn't see it but that is what I heard.

9. Yeah, but sadly, she is marketed as "rock"...
..as they insist on trumpeting at every possible opportunity, she's noooooothing like her sister. She's much more of a "rock chick". If you listen closely you can actually hear a guitar on one of her songs. With distortion! I mean how much grittier can it get?

Riiiiiiiiiiiight.

10. Technology went haywire, and she got caught lipsyncing.
No talent types ALWAYS lipsync, and that was a bit of evidence.
Even more outrageous to me is the fact that SNL even booked one of these sugar pop tarts to perform on the show. There has been a lot of that in the past coule of years.

13. The lip syncing part isn't the bad part
Hell, even the Beatles had to do it. The worse part is that at the end, she blamed the band for playing the wrong song.
I heard today that her record company said that track was supposed to be a "percussion track" and the computer accidentally played a vocal track.

I watched it. She never sang and a lip syncing track never came on from
what I saw. She walked off before the singing part of the song.

15. No
The words to the first song started as the band was playing a different song. She went to put the mike up by her face, then dropped her arm and did the most amusing little sorry assed jig I've seen in AGES.

Until she walked off the stage in shame, that is.

18. Luckily I have Replay TV and no, a track for the words never came on.
The wrong song was played. It was weird, the band did seem to not play for a while and then join in to look like it was right. Then again it did sound like one guitar player played the wrong song by himself well after she walked off. But the words never played and she never mouthed the wrong words. If anyone has the east coast feed that can be posted to be watched that would be great.

19. I definitely heard words.
I couldn't tell if the music was the band or the track, but I definitely heard the lyrics to the first song she had played. So, I was thinking they either played a lip-sync track to the wrong song, OR a CD track was played. But I could most definitely hear lyrics.

21. Sure did

You can clearly hear the vocals starting as the poor girl quickly raises the mic to her face. Shameful.

That little dancing routine is totally ill. Love it!

14. Her bass & guitar player were smirking
It was a joy to behold.

Crappy of her to blame it on the only real musicians on the stage. Effin talentless b that she is.

Um, no hon, the person backstage put the wrong CD on. Those guys did look a little gleeful as they played her offstage. :) And Jude Law looked amused at the end too.

Blaming her band is so loser.
As is leaving the stage like a rank amateur.
Oh--but she IS a rank amateur.

24. Moby used Ashlee Simpson in his politics/music analogy...
He said Republicans are like Ashlee Simpson fans, in that they settle for whatever is the most easily digestible, while Democrats are like Radiohead fans, because they prefer their music with more substance.

So to take that even further, now it looks like Republicans are actually just lip-synching along to a tape without putting any real effort into it. And sometimes they screw up, and are forced to walk off the stage like an idiot.

So in conclusion: Moby is a pretty smart guy, and Ashlee Simpsons is a hack.

30. Just a band, dude. Just a band. Relax.
Your favorite band is not your mother or your ethnic group or your sexual orientation. It's just a band.
