I'm volunteering to call dems to get out the vote on the anit-recall
election tomorrow! I've been told by the office to also tell people to vote no on both props 53 & 54 but I have NO idea what they are. Who can give me a bullets version?

1. Can someone kick their own thread? Hey Californians...HELP!
Does anyone out there know what props 53 & 54 are about? I'm making my calls from home tomorrow. I'm supposed to tell people to vote NO on the recall and YES on Bustamonte (which I agree with and understand). Then I'm supposed to say to vote NO on both props. The gals that are running the anti-recall office are VERY progressive. Definitely left of a "centrist dem" and I'm thrilled to have found their office in Santa Monica. But, I think my credibility will be damaged if I say to vote no on these props. and then not know what the hell I'm talking about. HELP!!!!

2. Try:
http://www.ss.ca.gov/

The voter guide is available there. 53 I'm going to have to research. 54 I'm voting NO on. As I understand it, it says the state will no longer be able to collect racial data. It's couched in terms of creating a color-blind society, but in fact, if you don't collect data about race how will you ever know if disparities exist? It sure makes claims of discrimination harder to prove since there would be no government information one way or the other...
