Hey, Rabrrrrrr... save me some space on the ground at GITMO
would'ya?

I figure they will pick you up before me. Not much before, but some.

See you in the camps, brothers and sisters.

1. Aye
I shall join you gladly, if this country decides to go for the route of turning to shit.

Better to die a patriot than live in a shitting stinkhole of ignorance and hatred.

2. To hell with dying a patriot.
Worse comes to worst, and I take the route my English Puritan, Irish, and German ancestors took when their respective countries became intolerable: get the fuck out.

3. That is an option. But I have to look to Bonnhoeffer, who refused
to stay away from Germany, and worked for change from within.

I believe too strongly in the American ideal of self-governance and liberty to just abandon it to the shitmongers.

4. Ahhh, Dietrich... the fighting Lutheran who gives the whole
religion hope for the coming stuggle.

He has quite a following among Lutheran ministers these days. He was practically ignored until recently.

5. I have to admit...
that part of me is thinking along different lines. But that's emotion speaking and not reason; not sure which will win out.

7. Thankfully he has remained essential reading at my seminary
(since it was the seminary he went to in the US :-) )

And what with all the crap going on, the Barmen Declaration has been getting a lot of re-looks, at least within my church, and Dietrich's stuff is becoming more popular in a larger segment of the population (at least, the theologian segment - I don't know if many of the rank-and-file are reading him now, but if I have anything to do with it, they sure as hell will start).

It's time for a theological and social revolution. Time for the GOOD Christians of this country to stop being silent and start proclaiming, loudly and strongly, that the Church of Bush and Country is wrong - that it is, in fact, heretical - and that the true path of Christianity ios not triumphalism but humility; not vengeance but forgiveness; not death-dealing but servanthood; not hate or apathy, but love. Radical, all-consuming, incredible love for all people.

I was thinking before this election that if it goes for Shithead McCokeSpoon, it'll be time for me to start being more like Dietrich Bonhoeffer and a lot less like someone who is complicit through his silence and inaction; time to be a lot more vocal, a lot more present, and a lot more energetic.

Screw these people and screw this administration. I'm tired of these fuckclowns co-opting my faith and using it for evil intent and purposes.

This is 1930s Germany all over again. I bet a lot of the fundy icky-Christian-style churches started painting the American flag on their crosses as soon as the election results started coming in positive for ShitKnocker.

Heil Unserer Gott Shrubbie!

6. Silly people.
After the collapse of the U.S economy, Cuba will be the only superpower left in the Western Hemisphere. (Nobody else will care to be a "superpower," especially those Canadians.)

You will both get very nice jobs in a Cuban Hotel as bartenders, and you will be well loved by the tourists.

9. Worried
Do people here think the Bush administration will try to punish us for speaking out against them? I'm concerned they will get vindictive. What do you all think? I am afraid.

11. Yes, you lost them
You have to have 250 posts now to start a thread. See Skinner's thread at the top of the page about "buck up, things will be better" or something like that. He explains it in there. Also explains the new hilariously named General Discussion: Fighting and Acrimony.

And welcome to DU Doodlesweaver! :hi:

12. I'm worried, yes. It's a standard and typical fascist ploy
to "disappear" or harass anyone who dissents. Even though it was considered utterly patriotic to dissent when Clinton was president, under the fascist (read: republican) regimes, it's alwayws been unpatriotic to dissent with a president because it's important to recognize and honor the integrity and value of the office itself.

Pfagh.

I give these assholes less than a year before we start seeing real blacklists, a significant increase in "no fly" listings, and other forms of harassment. I'm sure there will also be some disappearing, maybe even some rounding up, but not much. Maybe by year three we'll start seeing those, after Shithead McAWOLFuckWad has established his whole power base and created his own Reichstag and declared martial law.

And I am about 50% sure that we'll see national martial law, or modern-day equivalent, declared within this "presidency".
