why does shipping from Canada take so long anyway?

I have someone from Winnipeg sending me something which isn't too far away, and apparentely it's still going to take 6-8 weeks. Yet I was able to send something to Florida and get my stuff in shorter than that time period. Does it just sit in some customs office for weeks?

by the way, what is that letter-number-letter-space-number-letter-number code at the end of Canadian addresses?

2. The slowness is because of customs

We have the same trouble getting parcels etc from the US.

It all has to be opened and checked item by item...sigh.

The number/letter line is our 'postal code'...same as your zip code.

3. 6 to 8 weeks sounds way out of wack

They're not shipping by dog sled are they? The company I worked at a couple years ago used to ship computer equipment back and forth between Toronto and Reston Va. (about 600 miles) and it would generally only take 2 to 3 days both ways and that included getting it through customs. If we put a rush on it, we could get it to the destination the same day (if it left before noon)or at the latest by the following day.

The letter and number combination at the end of the address is the Postal Code the equivelant of your zip code.
