Damn, I can't believe that. I would have thought mid 30s at best. How time flies.

Anyway, for those of you who've seen Once Upon A Time In Mexico: Is it worth paying 8 bucks to go see? My brother and I were thinking about going to it tonight, or maybe waiting till my mom comes down on Friday and going to it then.

3. Yes, 40 looks grrrreat on Johnny
:pant: :pant: Ohhh Baby! Johnny just rocks my world! He's aging like a fine wine.

Yes, OUATIM is wonderful fun! I saw it twice this weekend. If you liked the two previous Mariachi films, then you'll like this one. Beautiful cinamatography. And do try to see it in a digital theatre, otherwise the picture quality isn't the same.

7. I didn't like the movie
Edited on Tue Sep-16-03 10:48 AM by AlabamaDem
Don't waste your money. It's nowhere near as good as Desperado was... hell, I saw "How To Loose a Guy in 10 Days" last night and I thought THAT was better than Once Upon A Time In Mexico.

And if you really like Johnny Depp you won't like watching him get his eyes shredded in the movie.

8. Yes, that did make me wince - SPOILERS! above and below
but it is just a movie. It's not like he really got his beautiful hazel eyes gouged out.

It's just a cartoon with live actors, nothing more, nothing less. I didn't expect L'Aneé Dernièr à Marianbad -- prolly forget an accent or two.

And the soundtrack is awesome!

10. what really grossed me out was...
that he didn't just get them gouged out, they were shredded with that tool... I wasn't really looking at the screen at that moment but I'm pretty sure that happened - LOL. Then when he took off the sun glasses - POOR JOHNNY!!

oh and sorry for the spoiler guys, it's not anything major though.

16. Yes, it's in keeping
with the original. Just a bigger budget, better SFX, and a f**ing awesome soundtrack! Don't expect to be able to keep up with the plot. Just know that everybody, and I DO mean EVERYBODY, is on the make.

The escape scene down the side of the building with Antionio and Salma is extremely well done.

The whole shooting in digital thing intrigues me.

20. You're right about the plot being very complex, but I have a question
Was the Ruben Blades character (the FBI guy) on the take, too? I didn't get that.

25. Ruben
is out for revenge. Barillo had his FBI partner tortured and killed. Sands plays on his grief to get him going.

24. Johnny and Antonio
wrote music for their characters. Salma sings the song over the end credits. She has a lovely voice! I hope she sings more. I've become a big Salma fan since I watched Frida.

9. I enjoyed it but
it was disjointed in plot and not quite believable, very cartoonish. But lots of bang, bang, shoot, shoot.

18. I enjoyed it.
Of course, Depp gave his usual brilliant, always fascinating and interesting performance.

But I also enjoyed Antonio a lot. Yeah, it's his looks. But he doesn't do anything to hurt the role, in fact he helps it a lot with his gracefulness, and damn, he's the best looking guy around. I think he's sort of the male equivalent of Marilyn Monroe. You can't take your eyes off him because he is just so attractive.

Plus the movie is very sympathetic to Mexico, and I live 15 miles from the border and saw the movie with people who definitely didn't need the English translation written in for them. That was fun.

Just a good, fun, interesting movie. I read some stuff about a political subtext, but it didn't leap out at me. Just a sprawling adventure, with the best actor of our time and the most outstanding hunk of our time.

23. Eh, Antonio's OK
I don't know what Antonio's like in Nine on Broadway, but I found him at his most interesting in the Almodovar movies.

It's Johnny I can't keep my eyes off of! LOL! He's just way too damn interesting - the looks, characters, the delivery. Hotness itself!
