1. Ours is "Only You" because
we find each other continually funny and amazing.

I would love a nice schmaltzy song, but that one is really "it"!

2. Fastball.....
"The Way"...

Came out in summer 1998, just as my boyfriend (now husband) and I were going around to country...FL to CA and back....best months of my life!!

they made up their mind...
and they started packing...
left before the sun came up that day...
an exit to eternal summer slacking...
but where were they going without ever knowing the way...

10. That is a great love song!
I heard that it was written about an elderly couple who got lost on their way to a family reunion.

I don't think the real life story had such a happy ending, but I just love the fantasy of it in the song, the streets are paved with gold and all is well...

Anyone can see the road that thay walk on is paved in gold,
And its always summer, they'll never get cold,
They'll never get hungry, they'll never get old and grey,
You can see their shadows wondering off somewhere,
They won't make it home but they really don't care,
They wanted the highway, they're happier there today.

Have you ever read Kurt Vonnegut's Cat's Cradle? I think of the couple as a "duprass"

15. Yes...
never read Cat's Cradle, but a friend just told me I should about a month ago, Slaughterhouse Five is one of my favorites...

Anyways...
I didn't know the story behind it...I see what you mean...

As 21 year old college students, who had never been west of the Mississippi River, never had a break from school since we were 5, and literally left with a bookbag full of clothes, some peanut butter and crackers...we didn't care if we ever made it home, we were the happiest people in the world:)

PS-When my husband finishes his doctorate, we are going to go on a year long trip around the country, gotta live it up one more time before we settle down:)

20. We Have Three "Our-Songs" --- 1) Trisha Yearwood "How Do I Live"...
2) Theme from "Mad About You"
3) Des'ree "You Gotta Be"

How Do I Live

How do I,
Get through one night without you?
If I had to live without you,
What kind of life would that be?
Oh, I need....
I need you in my arms, need you to hold,
You're my world, my heart, my soul,
If you ever leave,
Baby you would take away everything good in my life,
And tell me now
How do I live without you?
I want to know,
How do I breathe without you?
If you ever go,
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I, how do I, oh how do I live?
Without you,
There'd be no sun in my sky,
There would be no love in my life,
There'd be no world left for me.
And I,
Baby I don't know what I would do,
I'd be lost if I lost you,
If you ever leave,
Baby you would take away everything good in my life,
And tell me now,
How do I live without you?
I want to know,
How do I breathe without you?
If you ever go,
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I, how do I, oh how do I live?
Please tell me baby,
How do I go on?
If you ever leave,
Baby you would take away everything,
I need you with me,
Baby don't you know that you're everything,
Real in my life?
And tell me now,
How do I live without you,
I want to know,
How do I breathe without you?
If you ever go,
How do I ever, ever survive?
How do I, how do I, oh how do I live?
How do I live without you?
How do I live without you baby?

You Gotta Be

Listen as your day unfolds
Challenge what the future holds
Try and keep your head up to the sky
Lovers, they may cause you tears
Go ahead release your fears
Stand up and be counted
Don't be ashamed to cry

You gotta be
You gotta be bad, you gotta be bold
You gotta be wiser , you gotta be hard
You gotta be tough , you gotta be stronger
You gotta be cool , you gotta be calm
You gotta stay together

All I know , all I know , love will save the day
Herald what your mother said
Readin' the books your father read
Try to solve the puzzles in your own sweet time
Some may have more cash than you
Others take a different view
my oh my heh, hey

Don't ask no questions , it goes on without you
Leaving you behind if you can't stand the pace
The world keeps on spinning
You can't stop it, if you try to
This time it's danger staring you in the face
oh oh oh
Remember

My oh my heh, hey, hey

21. Heaven 90210 by Urge Overkill
it was also our wedding song.

Heaven 90210

You see them coming, the queen of hearts and the king of fools,
Me and Innocence, just playing cards by the swimming pool.
They pull me out of an empty place, left me all alone I wanna touch you.
Think I'm movin' on back to Kansas
And I thought that savin' you would save me.

When she comes to me and takes my hand
When pain is all I know
She gives me heaven with thrills, 90210.

Lookin' at you as the sun was risin',
Nothin' to do just-a-watch at the man upon the moon
Look into his eyes and the sad blue glow, and it ain't surprisin', no,
To see a blind man lookin' twice before he crosses the road, yeah
Califor-ni-a, don't slip and slide into the sea on me
The sun still shines in L.A. when you're gone.

When she comes to me and takes my hand
When pain is all I know
And gives me heaven with thrills, 90210
Just gives me heaven with thrills, 90210
She gives me heaven with thrills.

23. Damn. If only
I'd really paid attention, I wouldn't have married either one of those guys! Obviously, I've got to find some better songs.

First husband: Elvis' "Loving You."

loving you, loving you.
Winter, summer, spring-time, too,
loving you, loving you.
Makes no difference where I go or what I do.
You know that I'll always be loving you.

If I'm seen with someone new,
don't be blue, don't be blue.
I'll be faithful I'll be true;
always true, true to you.
There is only one for me, and you know who.
You know that I'll always be loving you.

Always covering his bets for all those "someone news."

And second husband:

"The end of the innocence" Don Henley

Remember when the days were long
And rolled beneath a deep blue sky
Didn't have a care in the world
With mommy and daddy standin' by
But "happily ever after" fails
And we've been poisoned by these fairy tales
The lawyers dwell on small details
Since daddy had to fly

But I know a place where we can go
That's still untouched by men
We'll sit and watch the clouds roll by
And the tall grass wave in the wind
You can lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

O' beautiful, for spacious skies
But now those skies are threatening
They're beating plowshares into swords
For this tired old man that we elected king
Armchair warriors often fail
And we've been poisoned by these fairy tales
The lawyers clean up all details
Since daddy had to lie

But I know a place where we can go
And wash away this sin
We'll sit and watch the clouds roll by
And the tall grass wave in the wind
Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair spill all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

Who knows how long this will last
Now we've come so far, so fast
But, somewhere back there in the dust
That same small town in each of us
I need to remember this
So baby give me just one kiss
And let me take a long last look
Before we say goodbye

Just lay your head back on the ground
And let your hair fall all around me
Offer up your best defense
But this is the end
This is the end of the innocence

It was supposed to signify leaving behind a childhood friendship crush, and after 25 years and many other relationships, finally entering into partnership. It ended up signifying the death of a lifelong friendship.

26. Baby Bitch by Ween
oh, well, that was for my first wife....
Its safe to say that I was a little bitter for awhile... Now, quite happy with someone who insists that Can I have This Dance by Anne Murray is our song! And thats ok.

It's been a while since I've seen you smile
But now you've come back again
Came into the room and you saw my girl
And you asked her how long it's been
"A year" she said and you shook your head
Said "I'm surprised it's gone on that long"

Baby, Baby, Baby Bitch
For words I am at a loss
Baby, Baby, Baby Bitch
I'm better now please fuck off

What else you gonna say when while you're back on your stay
Maybe something, maybe nothing, we'll see
It's just too bad, you're beautiful I guess
I wasn't for you and you weren't for me

Baby, Baby, Baby Bitch
Please slip back into yourself
Baby, Baby, Baby Bitch
Go conquer someone else

People say, "How beautiful, how sweet, how kind"
You're perfect, you've got nothing to hide
But I, for one, have seen the sun
And the bitch that you've locked up inside

Got fat, got angry, started hating myself
Wrote "Birthday Boy" for you babe
Now I'm skinny and sick and paranoid
Without a cent to my name

Baby, Baby, Baby Bitch
Fuck you, you stinkin' ass ho
Most beauty I've seen
you come from a dream
But I can't close my eyes anymore
No, I can't close my eyes anymore

28. True Companion by Marc Cohn
it was our wedding song.

Baby I've been searching like everybody else
Can't say nothing different about myself
Sometimes I'm an angel
And sometimes I'm cruel
And when it comes to love
I'm just another fool
Yes, I'll climb a mountain
I'm gonna swim the sea
There ain't no act of God girl
Could keep you safe from me
My arms are reaching out
Out across this canyon
I'm asking you to be my true companion
True companion
True companion

So don't you dare and try to walk away
I've got my heart set on our wedding day
I've got this vision of a girl in white
Made my decision that it's you allright
And when I take your hand
I'll watch my heart set sail
I'll take my trembling fingers
And I'll lift up your veil
Then I'll take you home
And with wild abandon
Make love to you just like a true companion
You are my true companion
I got a true companion
True companion

When the years have done irreparable harm
I can see us walking slowly arm in arm
Just like the couple on the corner do
'Cause girl I will always be in love with you
And when I look in your eyes
I'll still see that spark
Until the shadows fall
Until the room grows dark
Then when I leave this Earth
I'll be with the angels standin'
I'll be out there waiting for my true companion
Just for my true companion
True companion
True companion

awwww

29. In Your Eyes - Peter Gabriel
Saw him in concert this sumnmer. Perhaps the best concert I've EVER attended in my life.

Peter Gabriel is the coolest human being to ever put on a pair of trousers.

Lyrics to "In Your Eyes"

love I get so lost, sometimes
days pass and this emptiness fills my heart
when I want to run away
I drive off in my car
but whichever way I go
I come back to the place you are

all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light
the heat I see in your eyes

love, I don't like to see so much pain
so much wasted and this moment keeps slipping away
I get so tired of working so hard for our survival
I look to the time with you to keep me awake and alive

and all my instincts, they return
and the grand facade, so soon will burn
without a noise, without my pride
I reach out from the inside

in your eyes
the light the heat
in your eyes
I am complete
in your eyes
I see the doorway to a thousand churches
in your eyes
the resolution of all the fruitless searches
in your eyes
I see the light and the heat
in your eyes
oh, I want to be that complete
I want to touch the light,
the heat I see in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes
in your eyes in your eyes

32. truly, madly, deeply
by savage garden.

sappy, huh? kind of out of character for a non-sentimental cynic like me, but what can i say? he really did sweep me off my feet and make me believe in romance and true love.

I'll love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply
I will be strong I will be faithful
'cause I'm counting on

A new beginning
A reason for living
A deeper meaning

I want to stand with you on a mountain
I want to bathe with you in the sea
I want to lay like this forever
Until the sky falls down on me

And when the stars are shining brightly in the velvet sky,
I'll make a wish to send it to heaven
make you want to cry
The tears of joy for all the pleasure in the certainty
That we're surrounded by the comfort and protection of

The highest powers

I'll be your dream I'll be your wish
I'll be your fantasy
I'll be your hope I'll be your love
Be everything that you need
I'll love you more with every breath
Truly, madly, deeply

still brings a sweet little tear to my eye...*sniffle*

Nothing Else Matters

So close no matter how far....
Couldn't be much more from the heart...
Forever trust in who we are...
And nothing else matters...

Never opened myself this way...
Life is ours...we live it our way...
All these word I don't just say....
And nothing else matters...

Trust I seek and I find in you....
Every day for us something new...
Open mind for a different view...
And nothing else matters...

Never cared for what they do..
Never cared for what they know...
But I know....

First is Last Dance, by Donna Summer. We met in a dicso and won a dance contest using that song as our finals number.

Second, is Everybody Wants to Rule the World, by Tears for Fears. That's just a song that resonated with both of us very intensely, at the very first hearing for both of us. Not sure exactly why, it just happened.

40. We have 2...
...One is "A Kiss to Build a Dream on" by Louis Armstrong. This is the first song that Cliff learned to play on the trumpet I bought him our first Christmas. The other is "I'm Putting All my Eggs in One Basket," the first song we ever danced to, the Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald version.

I'm Putting All My Eggs In One Basket

-Irving Berlin

I've been a roaming Romeo
My Juliets have been many
But now my roaming days have gone
Too many irons in the fire
Is worse than not having any
I've had my share and from now on:

I'm putting all my eggs in one basket
I'm betting ev'rything I've got on you

I'm giving all my love to one baby
Heaven help me if my baby don't come through

I've got a great big amount
Saved up in my love account
Honey
And I've decided
Love divided
In two
Won't do

So
I'm putting all my eggs in one basket
I'm betting everything I've got on you

<2>
I've been a roaming Juliet
My Romeos have been many
But now my roaming days have gone
Too many irons in the fire
Is worse than not having any
I've had my share and from now on:

I'm putting all my eggs in one basket
I'm betting ev'rything I've got on you

I'm giving all my love to one baby
Heaven help me if my baby don't come through

I've tried to love more than one
Finding it just can't be done
Honey
There's one I lie to
When I try to
Be true
To two

So
I'm putting all my eggs in one basket
I'm betting everything I've got on you
