Anyone know of an inexpensive place to stay in Venice?

I went once before--in January, so everything was cjheap because it was the low, low, low season.

Will be there next week--looking for something near the main train station--a hostel is fine, but I think that is on one of the islands in the lagoon.

Looking for cheap--did I mention that????????

1. Do you know Italian?

I went to www.hotels.com and on the lower left of the screen was a Eurpoean section. I clicked Italia and it brought up listings, in Italian of course.

3. I'd stay away from the tourist area.

Try one of the other islands in the lagoon--like the Lido. Also, be sure to check out "Venice" by Jan/James Morris. My favorite book about Venice. Not a guide book but just more about the history of Venice, how the people live there, etc. An incredible book. Enjoy the most beautiful city on earth!

6. Stayed on the Lido last time and the boats went on strike!

Was stuck for a few hours--want to avoid that this time.
