Report from the eye of the storm...
So, I thought I'd post these little nuggets as the storm passes over my home in Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Just came back from the oceanfront. 1st Avenue, despite being under an evacuation order, has drawn a few hearty surfers. The only problem is, the surf is very confused and blown out by the strengthening winds.

I snapped a few pictures and popped a squat to watch the ocean.

The city of Virginia Beach has issues evacuation orders (mandatory) for communities adjacent to the Chesapeake and the Atlantic. Some of those homes are worth millions, so I'm sure the anti-looting police might be out over the next few days.

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow...I wonder if I'll see the postman tomorrow. If I do, that brother is getting a bottle of whisky for Christmas.

Nobody in my neighborhood, a couple miles from the deep blue sea, has even started taping their windows, etc. In fact, the only sign of activity I saw was my neighbor, mowing his lawn. But, then again, he ALWAYS mows his lawn. Must be therapeutic.

Stocked up on supplies last night. Didn't have to fight for water and it was nice to see the store hadn't gouged the price of H2O in the face of panic. My emergency, all hell is going to break loose shopping list, in order of priority was:

Water, Beer, a couple rib-eye steaks, some salad fixings, a pack of cigarrettes (just in case...I normally don't smoke), and $12 worth of lottery tickets. I think the jackpot was at $75,000,000. That'd be nice to have in a pinch.

So, until tomorrow, if my power is still on, the weather is absolutely PERFECT right now. About 75 degrees, crisp, a little breeze, and not a cloud in the sky, except for that big one over the ocean. But, we won't count that one, yet.

Brian

2. Hope your power does not go out for a
week. Salads and steaks don't hold up well with no refrigeration. Peanut butter and canned meats and stuff - that's the ticket.

5. I've got propane and propane accessories
Should be good. I do wish I had a generator to play my X-Box when the power goes out.

9. Beef jerky is one
Cheerios is always a good choice too. I like the tuna fish packages they have in the stores. The sandwich making items they are great, and don't need refrigerating. It even comes in chicken salad. Then there is always spaghetti'O's. Sounds good to me anyway.

Be careful no matter what.:toast:

You did say you had the beverages part taken care of already-right?

10. Yes, plus the people who are shacking up with us
are bringing even more! I think we're going to use the 12 gallons of water I bought for taking showers...

11. Have plenty of games around
I like the dice game of ten thousand, myself. Cards are always great too--make sure to remind them to bring all of their change with them for poker. Could make money even while off work. The storm could be a good thing.
