I've had the same job for three years
and I love it.

Do you love your job?

What's your favorite, ideal job?

1. I've had mine for 3 1/2
and I would like it a lot since I deal with - more accurately deal to - people on a daily basis. But, as some who have read other posts of mine can attest, I am very disenfranchised with the entire casino business for a number of reasons.

If I could jump the tracks and get into something different, I would want to become either a veterinarian, a nutritionist, or a counselor for troubled kids. Something that actually gives back to the community and isn't as parasitic as the casino thing.

3. We can always jump the tracks
Sometimes the fence is a bit higher, but we can still make it!

6. Not to sound like a downer or anything
I believe in myself now to a much greater degree than I did back in the early 90's when I became a casino dealer out of ignorance and desperation. If I needed only my intelligence to carry me through a career change, I would have made the switch quite a few years ago.

However, all three of the careers I'd like to enter require rather extensive education and that costs money. Sadly, like so many of us, I lack both the money for schooling AND the ability to leave my present job for something else while I worked my way through school. Too many obligations now, I'm afraid....

What I'm looking into is that just *maybe* I could find a way to get my wife into Veterinarian school, as that's something that she's wanted to do all her life but didn't due to lack of self-esteem and support when she was younger. If I could somehow get her through school, then just maybe I could afford to go while she ran her own animal hospital. Plus, I would no longer need to be in a gambling-oriented location, thus eliminating that problem.

2. I love my job! Too bad I don't get paid for it.
I volunteer at our nature center here in Champaign, and I take schoolchildren on field trips in the woods. I also take care of the various wildlife we have living there. It is the most fulfilling thing I have ever done. I love turning kids on to ecology!

10. Oh yeah. Lots of terrific stories, lots of fun.
I also have lots of sad stories. Like the children who come with no coats on in the winter time, or kids with decaying baby teeth. I asked some first graders what they ate for breakfast that morning, because I wanted to show them that everything they eat comes from plants or things that eat plants. About half of the kids said that they hadn't had breakfast that morning. These were first graders! My parents never let me out of the house without my bowl of oatmeal. I'm going to stop ranting now. That's better. Yes, lots of fun. I get to tell stories while dressed up in costumes and I get to handle neat animals, like snakes and owls. The kids really get a kick out of the animals when we bring them to the schools, especially if we get pooped on.

in their pockets, it would be you.
I hope the kids remember you for most of their lives for your efforts.

5. I had mine for six years
I ended up hating it and quit two weeks ago. Now I'm looking for a new job, hopefully something I won't end up hating.
