Poll question: DU Singles: Does Winter make you even more lonely?

You know, it's getting colder, you want to snuggle up next to someone and.... BAM! No one there but you (and possibly your pets). Do you find it's harder to be single around the winter months and the holiday season? The holiday season doesn't bother me as much as just wanting to cuddle up on a cold day.

2. Valentine's Day is by far..oh wait, that's in winter. Suck.

I am schizophrenic in this regard, because my opinion of men isn't that high anymore, and I don't want the headache of someone else and their drama...but I still wouldn't mind having someone to have coffee with, get a present for, be surprised by...

New Year's and Valentine's Day are the worst days of the year for single-but-looking folks I think.

New Year's Eve especially sucks when you go to a New Years' party and get rejected for a kiss by the only single woman in the room.

3. G'day, Blondie!

I can't find anyone who can read a personal ad. I have cats, I've gotten 2 responses from women who don't like cats. I don't smoke, I've gotten a response from one who smokes (but she said "occasionally" so I guess that was okay). I'm not Christian, I've had a few responses from women who want men who "love the Lord." I say that my photo is present, please have one also. I've gotten several responses that say "ask me for my photo." I've re-read my ad to make sure that I wasn't misleading. I can still read and write. :dunce:

If that's a sample of my choices, being alone may not be so bad. :shrug:

Stayed in last night, didn't play trivia, 'cause I had to sit thru' a job safety seminar this morning and we have our "mandatory" holiday luncheon this afternoon. I didn't want to do all of that and fight a hangover, too. (whoa, getting prudent in my old age! LOL)

How goes with you?

11. Mom is improving

she's practicing using the cane around the house, she still has to use the walker for longer distances.

I cooked crab-stuffed fish, green bean casserole, rice and dressing (no gravy) for Thanksgiving. Took a stack of corn pancakes to the sports bar later on and watched football.

I didn't know that "whomever you kiss at midnight is who you'll spend the year with." I knew a few I kissed last New Year's I didn't want to spend the year with, I knew one I kissed during the year would've been nice, but that didn't fly either.

Lonely and tired? I take it that you hadn't talked to your favorite Marine lately.

That would still be a negative. He's waay too busy. We've talked for maybe 30 minutes in the past 2 weeks. Not going well. Life goes on I suppose.

One (an old friend) I was trying catch up with went out of town to see her mother, came back, didn't call me back when she returned (I did send multiple e-mails) and has since found some other guy. I see how high I was on her list. :(

And the marine... well, I haven't seen him in 4 months, he's waay too busy training to even THINK about having a girlfriend. I pretty much knew it was over a few months ago. We still talk and hopefully I'll see him soon, but it's just not happening right now.

I'm not single, but with 8,000 miles between my partner and I, this past Winter was pretty hard to get through.

I admit though I really get lonely and miss my partner terribly during a Summer storm.

To me there is nothing finer that cuddling up with my partner after a hot sultry Summers day when the night has cooled right off and there is a storm outside.

Since 2002 we have only seen each other for a total of 56 days. This year, we haven't seen each other at all, but we will be spending Christmas and the New Year together. And that will be the first holidays we will get to spend together since 2001.

Winter is the best time of the year if you have a bf. If your out in the freezing cold after the both of you go back into your apartment you need to warm up and the best way to warm up is under the covers and it takes a long time to get your toezies warmed up if you know what I mean. :D

I do recall being very agressive when I was single...by agressive I mean that I went out all the time and talked to every woman I saw. Most of the time I just chatted and said goodbye (they said goodbye). Ocassionally I was rebuffed outright. A certain percentage of the time I made a contact. Sometimes a one night stand...sometimes a friend.
It's a numbers game...(god I'm starting to sound like a salesman)


and oh yeah...4 miles five days a week. Not losing much weight...but I'm getting smaller...waistwise anyways!

Being recently single, I was lying in bed last night, shivering (I'm always cold) and I was thinking how much I hate being alone in the winter. A :hug: to you, we always have DU to keep us warm. :)

31. When I was single I loved winter...

While the holidays were a bit lonely despite having a lot of family but not having a girlfriend, the winter itself meaning January and February and most of March was always a great time. Because of the cold weather it was much easier to just stay in, read, watch movies and be by ones self. When the weather gets warm everyone goes out and is more active and one becomes more aware of being single and alone in those settings.

When I get lonely I go over to my relative's houses and hang out with them for a little while or invite a friend over.

Even though I look like a big teddy bear, I'm not the cuddly type. I've never been in a serious relationship and I doubt I ever will be.

I remember what mediocre company is like. Now my rule of thumb is: Are they better than a bad book? And maybe I just adapted to solitude, which might be bad in the long run. No incentive to meet anyone.

I do have a few personal ads floating in sites that I haven't yet decided are crooked. Like someone mentioned above, very few read my profile. Though one recently sent on of those "winks". And a nice profile to boot. Only too far, far away. And serviced neither by train, nor bus...my car's a bike.
