I'm 40 and just got my first learners permit to drive - dumb test |
|
Well I'm 40 so it's about time.
I expected to breeze through the learner's permit test. But I got 5 questions wrong very early on, and you can ONLY get 5 wrong and pass.
4 of the 5 questions I got wrong really pissed me off because they were about drunk driving and I'm never even a drunk PASSENGER. I just didn't think about that aspect of driving because I wouldn't do it.
And I'm further pissed because those questions were so dumb.
One was what is the legal blood alcohol level for driving -- as if knowing that can help me be a better driver.
Another was about the legal penalty for drunk driving - which is NOT a matter of safe driving either.
Clearly the anti-drunk driving forces have to be appeased.
Bah!

it's been a few years, besides I think they were easier then. But most people I've talked to lately don't pass the first time.

4. The questions have a point |
|
I'm not sure what the DMV booklet in your state has by way of information, but often when the legal BA level is given it's accompanied by information on approximately how many drinks that is. So if you've studied up you are demonstrating that you at least have a guideline as to how many is legally too many.
Knowing the legal penalty for drunk driving is more for deterring drunk driving. Whether the deterrent works is another question.
Did you get the DMV book and study it? The info should be in there.

5. Actually the question about how many drinks the body |
|
Actually the question about how many drinks the body can process over time had a point.
The question about penalties for drunk driving is indeed intended as a deterrent but that's not what the learner's permit is for.
I still say knowing the illegal blood alcohol level is a dumb question because there's nothing you can do to TEST your own blood alcohol level before driving.
