Governor Bans Flavored Condoms

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Illinois' governor is pulling the plug on flavored and colored condoms. Gov. Rod Blagojevich is ordering the state public health department not to buy any more of the lively condoms.

A spokeswoman for the governor said Blagojevich feels the condoms are inappropriate because they encourage sexual activity.

But some health workers are disappointed by the decision. One outreach specialist, Dante Bryant, says the condoms in bright colors and flavors were able to catch the attention of young people.

"That's the generation we're trying to get because they're engaging in risky behavior," Bryant said.

Bryant said the center gets flavored and colored condoms from the state and then distributes them at bars or areas frequented by drug users to promote safe sex.

The Public Health Department has given clinics and local health agencies about 360,000 flavored condoms and 910,000 colored condoms this year. That's in addition to the millions of ordinary condoms it provides every year. This year, the state has spent more than $117,000 in federal funds on condoms.

After learning about the special condoms, the Democratic governor ordered the department not to buy any in the future.

I have put in 5 entries today, all related to stupid shit like this.

First anti-gay marriage laws, then attempts to ban books with gay characters, then laws to ban camera crews from the battlefields, then abstinence classes that lie to their students about science, and now laws to ban flavored condoms because they encourage "sexual activity".

I'm so tired of saying, "what's next?"....it usually happens right away...

I'm in illinois, and so far i've been extremely under-whelmed by blago...so far, he's been pretty much what you'd expect from the son-in-law of a sleazy chicago alderman.

and this condom thing is just INSANE.

don't any of these people remember what their sex drives were like in high school?

and have they looked around and noticed the content of the ads, movies and shows on tv that kids are exposed to umpteen times a day?

I've never heard of a teen that was going to use a condom but changed his mind because it wasn't blue. I guess the flavored might help with oral sex, but still...if you're going to use a condom, you're going to use a condom, and if you're not you're not.

Blagoavich is sleazy...I was very much disappointed that he squeaked out a win in the democratic primaries.
