Is it weird to bake a birthday cake for Jesus?

My neighbor told me that every year for Christmas they bake a birthday cake for Jesus. I asked her how many candles they put on. LOL She just laughed. She has a good sense of humor at least.

Why do we celebrate Christmas when we do? I'm sure it's a pagan thing. That would make my neighbor's head spin.

December 25th was originally a pagan holiday called Saturnalia, which brought parties and celebrations apparently comparable to Mardi Gras. Of course, the church frowned upon such hedonistic debauchery, so they proclaimed it Jesus' birthday to make it a religious holiday.

Most scholars agree that Jesus Christ was probably born on or around the month of April.

To look further into it, I remember the History Channel's website always had such historical information on the holidays, maybe they'll have it up again this year. The Discovery Channel usually shows this kind of programming as well around Christmas.

I guess it kind of bring the "why we are celebrating/it's not just Santa and presents" message into a format kids can relate to.

I did find it weird, though, last year, when I heard the strains of "Happy Birthday" being played at Christmas Eve mass. (I'm not Catholic, though, so maybe it just seemed out of place for me.)

seriously, reminds people of the real reason for the holiday, that it's not just mass consumption and greed. So it's not really Jesus's birthday, who cares? it's a celebration.

and on a less serious note, Jesus personally told me, through the crazy guy who lives down the street from me, that he prefers Devil's Food Cake. Don't you be dissing Jesus' wants and likes, it's HIS birthday, afterall.

I didn't used to think it was weird. It makes more sense than giving gifts to everyone you know in honor of someone else's birthday ;)

It was a tradition. The youngest child would carry out the birthday cake to the family while they all sang "Happy Birthday". They are a large Catholic farm family, with eight kids.

20. My family has a baby-Jesus party every year

Where we invite friends and neighbors over, go caroling in the neighborhood, everyone brings a toy to go to the toy shelf, we have a cake, read the nativity story and yes,we have a birthday cake for Jesus. It's a fun family tradition and we often have non-christians there who appreciate the Christmas season and the sentiment behind the party.

27. WEIRD Brazilian TV ad in the 70's

Had Jesus sitting behind a table, camera slowly pans out, and we see there's a HUMONGOUS birthday cake on the table. A church-like choir sings "Happy Birthday To You". Bugger if I remember WHAT the ad was for.
