Not the same as a Toyota RAV4 or a Honda CR-V, or even what I drive, a Hyundai Santa Fe, which has worse gas mileage than I'd like, but other than that is a great vehicle.

I have a '97 and my only complaint is that I don't care for the seats- I find they are a bit uncomfortable on long trips, and I would prefer the rear seat have headrests.

It was dirt cheap and I haven't had a problem with it yet. :)

A real joy to drive, and averaging over 40 mpg even though most of the miles are in short trips in a hilly area of the city. Bought it in September '02, and have put about 25K miles on it.

Toyota's been very persistent trying to get me to trade in, too, now that people have caught on.

The new ones are even better: more power, better mileage, and more interior room. I'm perfectly pleased with Snuffy, though, and I'll hopefully have it for a very long time.

(Don't mean to crow too much; I just got lucky on the timing.)

What people don't realize, too, is the acceleration: the torque of the electric motor really kicks for a car of that size, especially in city driving. Another good thing is that the very best mileage is when you're on a gridlocked freeway at a crawl, at which time you get about 80 mpg. I think the reason is that driving at speed creates more electricity than you can store, so when you're in heavy traffic, you're on pure electric much more, and actually use everything you create.

Even with the wait, I'd heartily suggest getting one. They're not that expensive, either. Toyota deserves everything they get.

This was back in February, when there weren't any around anywhere. So I was watching Ebay. There were several dealers trying to get way over stickers on new Priuses, but every now and then a new or slightly used 2004 would pop up from an individual.

So one popped up in Connecticut, and I used the instant purchase button as soon as I saw it. He had a reasonable price on it, and I knew it would never last the whole bidding period.

I found a company that would have shipped it for about $700, but driving there gave me a good excuse to visit NYC. I got to drive it in Manhattan the first night I owned it. Most fun I've ever had driving, dodging taxis on Fifth Avenue on a Saturday night. It was like NASCAR to me, but I think I scared my passengers a bit.

I used to go to UT. Austin's a great town. Bush got 42% of the vote here. Republicans are not welcome. How long ago did you live here?

I am not ashamed of it as much as I resent it. The gas mileage is RIDICULOUS. I am a college student and can barely afford to get where I need to go. I get little more than 10 MPG and it costs me 60.00 to fill up. I would NEVER own another SUV as long as I live. Every time I start it up I think about graduation and buying a hybrid. :)

Yes, that is right, a HORSE (the live animal with 4 legs).

I live on a farm and use the truck to haul animals and supplies, the SUV for the same (mostly in the winter because it is 4x4), compact car whenever possible especially for long distance travel, walk when in the city (or whenever possible), and the horse for recreation (although I have in the past actually ridden and driven to nearby stores, etc and wouldn't rule this out in the future!)

Ford Taurus with small V6 about 2 months ago. Had to make a rush trip to Washington state with it in early November. It did great and got decent MPG. Has more bells and whistles than anything I have had before. We also have a 1988 GMC S-15 pickup with over 201,000 miles on a 4 cylinder motor. It is ready for retirement.

It a reliable car- not very exciting, but it gets me where I need to go and it's mine. The only thing I really hate about it is the paint. If you cough on that car, it scratches. I will never buy a dark green car again.

I much like the Audi A2, and if my driveway were not a potholed
dirt road requiring at least 6 inches of clearance and 4wd, i'd
probably be in a more fuel efficient vehicle.

That said, i've driven this crv now to 80K miles, and am very
impressed with its performance, reliability and whatnot. Honestly,
if petrol were not 5+ dollars per gallon, i'd probably get an
ISUZU 4WD as my next car, but as it is so dear, likely i'll see
about getting the lightest 4WD with good road clearance and the
best petrol mileage that i can find.

My 2000 model has the sunroof in the back seat, which i don't
care for... and it seems they've fixed this on the latest models.
Frankly, all my complaints are fixed in the latest models, just i
actually preferred the 2000 shape to the current one... we'll see
if the 2005 model is better... who knows, i might even get another.
The dogs love the car, and it gets Ok mileage and has enough power
to do most things.

I'm unimpressed with the rear suspension, as if the car is heavily
loaded, it just bottoms out. Something should dynamically adjust
the car's suspension for load. I hear the new subaru model that
looks just like a CRV has exactly this. I'll check this one out
before getting re-married to honda.

According to people who've owned their cars for years, the
subaru and honda CRV have the highest ratings of all vehicles in
british motoring.

A Y2K 49cc Elite. Gets 80 miles per gallon. Top speed, about 30 mph. Since I live about 4 miles from work, it is the perfect commuter vehicle. It's a very cheap ride: I bought it used for $1000, it costs $35 per year for the tags, $12 per year for the inspection, and about $160 per year for the insurance, including theft insurance. Can't beat it for fun, either.

A 1998 Subaru Legacy wagon is my daily commuting car, and my wife gets the nice 2001 Saab 9-5 wagon with the baby.

As soon as we own a house I'll get a 1990 Saab 900 SPG for summer commuting. That's a hatchback.

I don't see the point of sedans anymore - hatches and wagons are so useful, and you don't pay any sort of penalty in handling. Granted, the options are limited, but they're growing fast.

I originally had Hummer and SUV together, but the SUV drivers told me it was unfair to lump them in one category, and that I should combine minivan and SUV. There is an obvious difference between those two, however, because SUVs aren't subject to the same emissions standards, as I'm sure you know.
I had to combine some things together because you can only have 10 options. My biggest oversight was in completely forgetting pickup trucks.
I'm shocked by how many DUers drive Hummers!

Same color as the one in the picture. Standard cab, 4-cyl and a five-speed. With a cap on the back, there's plenty of room for the dogs to ride, or for luggage when traveling. And it's kinda handy just for hauling stuff.

Oh I wish I had a pic to show you. We put NEW engine from Pueblo in it, new everything,clutch, electric, the works. It's been about 5 years now & needs a brake job. I have about 5,000 miles on the new engine.

Mike used the same pattern for the camper part, and did it in oak, the seats we found at the scrapyard and had them redone down here. all the little parts and knobs came from the junkyard out of dead vans. The panel and visors, all came from Rocky Mountain Auto Parts in Colorado. Had it painted original VW two tone colors.

It is cherry. Drove it down to the tip a couple years back, and it was a blast. Prior to that, she had been up to alaska and across the USA.

Bitchen van, maybe if we ever get a digital camera, I'll take a picture.

King of the road,baby! 290hp, wrapped in leather and best of all, it gets about 26-27 mpg on the highway, which is where my 90 mile commute takes place. No, I am not rich, I bought it used last year, one owner trade-in.





When I'm not on the commute, or on snow days, I drive a 2000 F-150 ex-cab 4x4. It's great for tramping through the mud and muck, which I actually do with it on a regular basis.
