I'm WIRELESS! Ask me anything...
Just finished installing a wireless LAN--Now I can sit in the bath, and still be connected to DU. Better than that, I can hang out at DU while walking on the ol' treadmill.

What an age in which to live at/on!

1. What happens when your laptop falls in the bath?
Just curious. Your statement was kind of alarming..

4. I'm wireless with a sony picturebook
and I have a cellular modem -

I can listen to Malloy at work.

And the Picturebook is only 1/2 the size of a laptop and has a long battery.

I recommend it to any DUer who wants to stay in touch.

8. The picture book looks too cool!
Please explain how it is that you can listen to Malloy while at work? Do you hook it up to your employer's Internet? I have a Mac 12 inch Powerbook with an airport extreme card and would love to hear liberal talk radio (I know Malloy is on at night) during the day...

5. I'm typing this on a Laptop...
running linux, with a wireless connection to the router. My wife is also browsing the web using her laptop running Win XP Home while sitting on the couch watching tv.

I have her shared files directory on her laptop mounted on my laptop so that I access files on her laptop. I'm using my computer to burn a Music CD for her, because EasyCD Creator just isn't working right on her laptop. I also have my home directory of my desktop computer (also running linux) mounted by my laptop computer so that I can work on a software program that I'm writing. The files are located on the desktop, and by mounting the directory on my laptop, I can keep the files located in a single location.

So we are both sitting on the couch with our laptops, browsing the web at the same time, the two laptops are networked together and with the desktop system so that I can easily access files on all three computers (even while in the bathroom). All this is done with only two wires. One between the router and the cable modem and one between the desktop computer and the router.

So I agree, "What an age..."

6. You can be on DU while sitting on the throne!
Of course if you are taking care of something that takes a bit of time perhaps reading a Freeper forum would aid in that activity

7. I hate wireless...
I was only wireless for a range of 20 feet, then my $70 card broke three times, I'm back on my DSL wire again, its faster and cheaper...

9. WIFI here. Netgear router.
Wish I could take my beautiful new laptop someplace and log on to DU in public over a cup of cheap joe. Have to settle for my backyard, kitchen, living room, den, and toilet. It's harder than ever not to stay connected all day. I can't imagine ever needing a desktop again.

Husband works on the four year old POS Dell, networked.

10. Around here, "Wireless" has the same connotation it did in 1912...
Complete with telegraph keys, too...

We have wireless at work. I still can't get used to the sight of people with their notebooks on the lunch table emailing away...Wonderful when technology is used for good!
