Jobs to India + Indians to the US - another thought.....

Something I read the other day, can't remember where...

Basically an article pointed out the following.

For decades now the West has been sending charity funds, training resources and individual volunteers to poorer "third World" countries. The idea was that if we could help educate people in these countries they could become doctors, nurses, teachers etc. and help their societies progress and become self-sufficient.

Except now, in the UK (and the US I believe) we have such a shortage of teachers, doctors and nurses that we are actively recruiting from countries in Africa and Asia and bringing people across to work in the West, often at lower wages than we pay our own citizens, but considerably more than they'd get back home.

So basically, we're using third World countries as a source of cheap resources, and depriving them of essential members of the community. Countless Western charities and individuals have wasted their time trying to help impoverished countries become self-sufficient, because as per usual we're just going to rip them off when it suits us.

It hadn't really occurred to me until I read the article, so I thought I'd share....

1. All of my doctors have been Indian

No problem with that, they are all citizens.

Conversely, my IT job is in dire straights.

A global economy is definately coming. Americans need to realize that this will ultimately open them up to 3rd world conditions. It is the result of laissez faire that people have been fighting for over a century.

And Indian may stop my staph infection... but I'll be goddamned if I will let my countries capitol (as well as my job) fly to another country.

I also realize I am lucky to not be in manufacturing worker in the 90's, but I was against it. And now that it is hitting home, I am more so against it.

I just hope CEO jobs will outsource someday.

And since WW2 we have subjugated the weaker nations. I'm glad you woke up. The imperialist forces do not work the same, anymore. We conquer via economy. And when that fails, outright murder (latin america and southeast asia are glaring examples that make me tear up).

2. what shortage of teachers?

Maybe in the inner city or in Connecticut, but last year I got zero work as a sub teacher. I think the economy is so bad that lots of college educated people without jobs are looking for work as subs.

3. Try the UK...to the best of my knowledge we're screwed....

Teachers taking early retirement in droves, few people coming through training college.

I believe that there is an acute shortage, but check it out before you fly over, eh?

5. I would hate to move to England

I would have to learn a bloody foreign language. I cannot help anyway since I am not cute. It is not like I am certified in the states, except in the sense that I am certifiable. I am only an emergency sub - which must mean there was a shortage, so they let people like me with an MA and two years of university teaching be a sub. Only they never call.

4. it wasn't charity at all, it was cold war-fare to keep them from communism

we never aided nations that were not a threat to become communist.

7. Communism USA style with corporations at the top?

An idea.

6. The middle class won't awaken until it no longer exists and

that is the plan our beloved President and Congress has. NAFTA means no factories taking orders, and now the middle class jobs are going. Hey, we are being turned into peasants by corporate aristocrats and corrupt government administrations. Clinton pushed NAFTA, but Bush no. I started it.

8. Heartbreaking because it's true

Yes. Before I got up just now, I was listening to the radio. There was a story about the brain drain on China now. It seems those who get to study abroad for college, both in the US and Europe, usually want to stay there after they complete their studies. Very few return home to help their local communities.

It's an interesting predicament we've created for ourselves.

9. That partially explains why China now imports teachers.....

rather than sending citizens abroad.

I know that they have done it for a while, but while I was teaching in Shanghai earlier this year it really was striking that many pupils had no interest whatsoever in the West.

They were learning English, essentially, to take as much business as possible away from the West, and couldn't give a toss about Western history, geography etc.

Some indoctrination has worked, but it's not so effective when your citizens are abroad by themselves.

10. Telemarketers, arrgghh!

Not only do these creeps interrupt my dinner, but they'r "out-sourcing" their crummy jobs...

I got three calls this week where the poor slob trying to sell me something I didn't need had an accent that was pure Bombay. I'm always polite to these people, but I want to rip their employers' gonads out without benefit of anesthetic.

I can't WAIT until "Do Not Call" goes into effect!

11. I have heard of hospitals bringing in nurses

from the Phillipines..supposedly due to the nursing shortage. I think they are doing this because Phillipine nurses, on an H1-B visa, can be worked for longer hours with no paid overtime.
