In my player -
Pulp - This Is Hardcore: This is a wonderful album that's gone unnoticed!
Diamond Rio - IV: Have always liked them, and this album is a good choice if you're considering buying one of their albums.
Butch Walker - Left Of Self-Centered: Butch is like the male Avril - making really good power pop. He's also a good balladeer - his ballads are kind of 80s in a good way.
On full album previews -
Lindsay Lohan - Speak: "Rumors" is really one of the weakest songs here. It sounds too much like Britney did when she was trying to re-create the "Baby One More Time" magic. But much of the rest is enjoyable pure pop/rock that Hilary Duff can't pull off, albeit a bit overproduced. Sometimes good ideas aren't finished. Lyrically, Lindsay does have something to say in a brash way, even though the lyrics are sometimes pieced together. I give the album a B.
Kelly Clarkson - Breakaway: Thankful was a decent if mostly uninspiring first album, but Kelly's improved a lot. Her voice sounds more controlled. The ballads, especially "Because Of You," stand out from many other pop ballads that I've heard because of how affecting they are. Also wasn't surprised I liked "Breakaway" after I heard Avril co-wrote it. I give this album a B+.
Alison Krauss and Union Station - Lonely Runs Both Ways: Another solid release from them, but to me it also sounds like their glossiest, and that takes away from things. A B.
I plan on getting all three albums.
Also -
more Sahara Hotnights samples. Kind of hard to explain why (maybe because it's kind of cheesy in a bad way,) but I don't think I'd enjoy them very much. The new album sounds like it would get a C. I like the Donnas a lot more.
And Christmas albums!
I've been busy, but after Christmas I'll be sure to post a topic about what albums from Christmas you listened to. :-)
