the choirs put it on at my college to a packed chapel. I actually took part too, but with the handbell choir as the prelude.

4. both, Christmas and Easter

there are two parts. Part 1 covers pre-Jesus to His Ministry, Part 2 is the Passion. Tonight they played all of Part 1 and then played "Hallelujah" which of course is the finale of the Easter part.

14. Off Topic story about Handel's Messiah...

My father is a lover of classical music. When he got a CD player, he proceeded to get all his LP's and tapes as CD's. This took a long time, and much effort. One Christmastide, he got a urge to get The Messiah... so went shopping.
And couldn't find it anywhere. Not The Wherehouse, Licorice Pizza, noplace had it (pre online ordering, this would have been early 90's.).
Then, one day, he passed a store calling itself 'Christian Music'. Aha!
Walking inside and studiously ignoring the Fundie materials surrounding him, he searched the CD racks... and found nothing classical.
A clerk came and asked 'Can I help you?'
My father said 'Do you have Handel's Messiah?'
'I'm sorry sir' came the clerk's reply...
"WE SELL ONLY CHRISTIAN MUSIC HERE"

all but a few stood up, which confused me because while i can understand older people not standing because of bad knees, or etc, but most of the people i saw not standing seemed middle age and in good health. oh well, guess some aren't up on continuing tradition.

24. Here's a very interesting thing about Messiah

The Easter story is told using texts fron the Old Testament with just one exception, if memory serves.

I could dig around in boxes and find out for sure, but the cats are in bed now.
