Why do they call it "layed" off? Sounds too much like "laid" which implies what is happening to you is fun. "Screwed" off is more like it! :evilgrin:

5. At my old company
They called it "Reduction in Force" or RIF. In fact (and I know this to be true), the managers were all required to refer to it as RIF. So you'd be at meetings and a manager would say something like "blah blah blah the RIF blah blah" or "The RIF is blah blah" well, you get the picture. They were not allowed to use the phrase "layoff" under any circumstance.

Needless to say, I too was ultimately RIFFED.

10% work force reduction at my company. I am in a division that is not part of the mainstream commercial products. We are profitable.

I think I am safe, but like the poster, there are people that I know and care for that might be out of work very soon.

no doubt. I wish you luck in your search. We've gone about a year now without any reductions... I'm now scared again. More than that I hate seeing people go through it. As for going through it myself... well I'm thanking my lucky stars.
