7. In freepish: "I'm series!"
Your right, TXLib, use the apostrophe for it's proper purpose...as a title for a Frank Zappa album.

And "while" we're at it, be sure "you" know how "to" use quotation mark's, also.

:D

There - As in "Over there."
Their - As in "That is their prerogative."
They're - As in "They are the real enemy of the American people."
Theyre is not a word (No, it ain't!)

Your - As in "Is that your opinion or rough rimjob's?"
You're - As in "You're nuts to think bu$h is good for anything."

Is there any reason why we can't come across as being better educated than the dark side? What is with this being proud of being ignorant thing anyway?

30. Things like 20's and LED's are OK!
That's what my style book says. That surprised me. So you can write:

"I paid for my LED's with a stack of 20's."

And you would be correct. However, I see on certain persnookity grammar mavens' websites that it is NOT correct but my style and grammar book says it IS.

32. Hmmm
I always used acronyms and such without apostrophes to make the plural. Please don't tell me it's "Elements of Style" that says it's okay.

33. The "Chicago Manual of Style"
says leave out the apostrophe in the case of acronyms, initials, etc. unless it's confusing. Exceptions are initials having more than one period in them, such as M.D.'s or Ph.D.'s.

The "Chicago Manual" also allows an apostrophe in the plural form of single letters, such as x's and y's. This is not a hard and fast rule, though, since the examples given in one section have no apostrophes.

The Associated Press Stylebook agrees with the "Chicago Manual."

I couldn't find a reference to this situation in "Elements of Style."

39. I like that
"says leave out the apostrophe in the case of acronyms, initials, etc. unless it's confusing."

I agree. I think LEDs is much better than LED's. But it's also nice that grammar gives us some official leeway here.

Also, x's and y's is WAY better than xs and ys. Ugh. My style book said that too.

I don't remember the title of the style book. I found it in a box of old books I used in high school. It was still wrapped in plastic. It had a really weird smell when I opened it. But I sat around reading it one evening. I love stuff like that.

It wasn't Strunk and White, which i also have.

34. Would that be Strunk & White?
I think I remember reading that "LED's" is acceptable, but "LEDs" is preferred.

I prefer it, even if "LED's" is correct, just to avoid perpetuating the grammatical myth that apostrophes are used for pluralisation.

where the quote ends by the inflection of their voice.

But, yes, I find that irritating.
