Has anyone looked into plasma and LCD tvs?

1. I did. Very pricey and half of them are crap quality. Worse,

LCD screens can have 'dead pixels' where a pixel remains black or lit at one color constantly. That is not fun to look at.

I've seen many in a row, all showing the same thing (Star Wars Ep. 5). Half the screens made Star Wars look like sub-VHS quality, while the rest made it look good. Most of the low-quality screens were the LCD or plasma ones.

I prefer those projection TVs. And they don't cost as much either.

2. Just bought a 42" LCD...after a lot of shopping

Decided against plasma...due to price and mounting issues (they are very heavy and require significant bracketing, etc.)

Bought a SONY Super WEGA...it is pretty sweet. Went for sony b'cuz I have Sony Surround, DVD, and VCR. AND, this set has a built in HD tuner, which obviates the need for a cable box. I can get Pic In Pic, and don't have to pay the cable company to rent the box.

They are available in 42, 50, 55 and 60 inches. The 42" runs around $2300-2500.

I purchased their added warranty for three years (something I NEVER do) because it provides in-home service for *anything*...burned out lamp, pixelled-out screen, etc...at no charge.

And at least for PAL, they only produce an acceptable picture with a HDTV signal. Also they don't last nearly as long, as a good old CRT TV.

5. I saw some DLP sets at Sears if you are into Sears at all..... I find them

to be a little higher than most other stores, but service does make a difference in the end result.... and no, I don't work for nor have anything to do with Sears :)

6. We bought a TV from Sears about ten years ago.

They put you on a waiting list for service.

They charge a lot, and do a crappy job on repairs. Then, when it is not fixed, they put you on a waiting list, and charge you some more, when they get around to coming back.

No more Sears appliances for me!
