Poll question: What would you do if you found a lost cell phone?
Edited on Mon Sep-22-03 11:18 AM by BurtWorm
My wife's cell phone probably fell out of her bag in a cab this morning. I've tried calling the number and keep getting the voice mail. I'm wondering if a poll here at DU should lead me to expect the worst or give hope a chance.

PS: Has anyone lost a cell phone? Did you get it back? If so, how did you retrieve it? Did it you stop or suspend service?

1. I'd find the nearest outlet of the provider, and give it to them.
They have more means to track the owner down, and they wouldn't use the phone nefariously (or I'd hope not).

2. I might call the cell-phone provider
and report that I found it. The provider should be able to match it up with its owner, unless it's pre-paid.

3. Funny story about cell phone
I was sitting in a bar back in Texas one day and a couple came in and was talking about how someone had broken the window out in their truck just to get their cell phone. Well they called the phone company and had them change the number over to a different phone they had and then when it rang they answered it. The person on the other end was the girlfriend of the person who stole the phone. She ended up telling them everything about the theif and that he had several warrents out for him already and she gave them the case numbers for the records. Poor fool maybe he won't try that again.

4. I lost mine
at the Dallas-Fort Worth airport. I had to have someone go to the airport and identify it. They had boxes full of lost cell phones there. The cab company probably has a bunch of them, too.

5. I'd scroll thru it and see if there is something like
Home, or work or something like that to see if there is anything to quickly identify the owner. After spending two seconds doing that, I'd try to get it back to the provider and let them deal with it.

8. That would seem to be the common sense thing to do
Like looking at the driver's license in a lost wallet to find the address of the owner. Or taking out the cash and credit cards and going on a spending spree.

9. Make calls to embarassing places like
strip clubs, or bizarre cults, then turn the phone in to the provider.

11. Jesus Christ! Two "minds" with but a single thought!
;) (You and Alfredo. This would not have occurred to me. Unless I knew the owner was a person I wanted to compromise.)
