Self-obsessed and pamered recovered alcoholics get 2 birthdays

and today is my 24th AA birthday--24 years clean and sober today.

I've got thirteen years, but I don't go to AA anymore. I should, I know. It would help me a lot with other issues.

But good work and keep it up one day at a time.

10. I worked with 3 people with long-term sobriety who didn't go anymore

10 years, 14 years, and 19 years. They were fine.

My guide here is that movie Days of Wine and Roses. There's a scene where he's talking to his sponsor. He's got 4 months, and he tells his sponsor that his wife also has 4 months, and she never went to any meetings. His sponsor says that's irrelevant. The point is does HE need meetings.

I go through periods when they fall off and periods when I'm there a lot. This week I barely went because the meeting I went to last week was so damn boring, old-timers droning on and on and on and on until I wanted to scream. I should have known--the topic was compassion. Like we know anything about THAT! Now resentment--there's something we can all talk honestly about.

Anyway, thanks Cappurr, and it's nice to know you're a fellow traveler of that road.

I've heard that a few times, anyway congrats for making it so long. I don't go to AA anymore, I guess it comes down to knowing who you are, and why you got on the merry go round in the first place.

But no congrats--I did what I did (get sober) out of sheer desperation, and I've now been sober long enough to realize how cheeky it is to expect a pat on the back for doing what normal people do just as a matter of consequence and duty.
