1. I remember

traveling to Atlantic City from Philadelphia with my Grandfather in the early 60's. That was a nice little town then, with the boardwalk and saltwater taffy and the beach. Pre-casino days. Its a shame what has happened to the town in the past 30 years.

I'm glad to see a poll on Jersey, even though I haven't lived there in years. But you picked mostly poor urban areas. What about all the great places like Morristown and Princeton?

for 35 years and our best man is chief Hoboken fire department...born and raised in Sanatra's boyhood town on the waterfront...my children were born in Hoboken...it is a BEAUTIFUL city

11. I lived in Cranford for 2 years. Phenomenal town....

Between that and Westfield next door there was so much to do. So many great restaurants and stores and just a generally relaxed vibe. I miss living there.

16. Don't know Maple Shade, but Haddonfield is beautiful

I used to work in the travel industry, and I was always amazed at how ignorant even these supposedly sophisticated folks were about New Jersey. Everyone pictures the turnpike and the images shown during the theme from The Sopranos (The Oranges, Elizabeth, etc). Very little awareness of the lovely rolling hills in the North or the pretty little (WAY overpriced) towns in the middle near Princeton.

ZERO awareness of the Pine Barrens. I've spent a lot of time camping and kayaking there, and it's a facinating area - forest of dwarf pines about 3' tall, cranberry bogs, you name it. Even saw a bald eagle one afternoon while sitting in a creek in a kayak, waiting for the canoers to catch up.

In fact most of the towns in our area have a similar town center, like Haddonfield does. Haddonfield has all of the money, so they have the better shops. :)

We are like Haddonfield's bastard cousin. :evilgrin:

Lived there as a single and newly married in the 80s-- moved to Montclair when the kids came along, but still miss the mile-square city.

I loved being right by the GWB with easy access to Manhattan and the ethnic dining was fantastic.

I hate going to Ft. Lee (from Philadelphia) only because I always get stuck in Bridge traffic.
