Mac OS X Update (10.2.8) is now available at your software update in System preferences, or in a terminal type (without the parentheses) 'sudo softwareupdate' after you hit return you will be asked for your password. hit return and in a couple seconds you will get the list of updates. the official name is MacOSXUpdate10.2-10.2.8

Again type 'sudo softwareupdate MacOSXUpdate10.2-10.2.8' then hit return

It is a big download, 40 megs plus.

If you have already done your password it will probably not ask for it again. It will take a bit to download, and a restart is required. If you have never used the command-line, this might be fun for you. Remember, you don't need the parentheses.


I like typing 'cal' in the terminal and 'kill gates'
If you like messing around and exploring, the terminal is a lot of fun, but it can be dangerous if you get messing around with things you shouldn't.

3. How did you know to use this command?

4. Open the terminal, found in the utilities folder in the

Applications folder.

first I would just type in sudo software update <hit return> then type in your password, to see how many updates you have.

once that is complete, type the command in question. You can do that with other software. The software should be typed as shown with no spaces. like MacOSXUpdate10.2-10.2.8

take your time and learn different commands.

5. The 10.2.8 update has been pulled: ethernet and other problems

MacFixit.com and other Mac sites were deluged with reports of troubles with 10.2.8. This update has now been pulled from the Apple servers and is no longer available with software update.

My system updated flawlessly, but others are detailing woes with ethernet; dual display configurations, and other problems with 10.2.8. I remember something similar with 10.2.5. No doubt (fairly) soon there will be a 10.2.9 that addresses the problem issues.

Well it didn't trash my WallStreet, but, out of prudence, I didn't
apply it to my wife's "production" G4/500; I figured I'd give it a
few days runtime. Thanks for the update, err, updated information! :-)
