Sirius or XM???

1. I just bought Sirius and I am very happy with it

They are currently offering about $50 in rebates if you agree to 3 months of service.

5. Have XM but going to Siruis

I have XM and love it, but they have Alan Colmes on at night instead of Bill Malloy :( so I plan to switch. XM also doesn't have all of Randy Rhodes show on - only from 5 - 7. I think Siruis has 2 liberal channels and they also have a gay and lesbian station.

2. I had the same question two months ago

I went with Sirius.

Here's the pros and cons:

XM
No contract
It's supposedly bigger and has better radio.
It has baseball.
I heard somewhere that they have some ties with Clear Channel (CON)
They only air AAR until 10pm -- i.e. no Malloy. (They then air Alan Colmes!!)

Sirius
One year contract
It has full AAR
It has the NFL
It will have Howard Stern

3. If you are a fan of AAR...

Mike Malloy especially I would recommend getting Sirius because they carry the full line-up unlike XM which switches over to Alan Colmes at 10pm. Also Sirius will be carrying all NFL football games next year, XM will be carrying all MLB as well as Big Ten and ACC sports.

As for the music, both have great stations but I think Sirius is more talk radio oriented. Both are good it's just a matter of personal preference on programming

Two NPR stations and a Public Radio International

and you can go with month to month, yearly or lifetime subscriptions. I don't remember any contract

XM has what it call XM Public Radio, which includes non-NPR offerings (from PRI, MPR, etc.) as well as the new Bob Edwards show.

9. XM DOES have NPR!!

an excellent one, too, combining the best NPR affiliate broadcasts AND the new Bob Edwards show! This started a couple months ago.

I have XM and really like it. though I miss out on the night shift at AAR, I do like their inclusion of the Ed Schultz show. They have very wide music choices, the bluegrass, alt.country, alt.90s, and acoustic stations being my favorites.

6. Thank you guys....

Seems like everybody I ask likes Sirius over XM...I already own Sirius but wanted to get peoples opinions. If you have any extra cash laying around, I would recommend investing in Sirius. Ive doubled my money in less than a month and its still skyrocketing everyday.

18. A Broker friend of mine told me Clear Channel

owns 10% o XM.
Another poster here said they had reduced their stake and had had non voting share but I couldn't find any evidence to corroborate that claim....

I did find out that Clear Channel put up a significant initial investment......

10. I have had Sirius since July and am quite happy.

I got it because at the time they offered Air America and NPR which weren't available on XM. Has it changed? Just look at the choices and pick the one with the stations you want most. Don't let the Walkman type receiver XM is offering sway you. I have read poor reviews of it. Like all the systems you need a clear shot at the satelite for reception. I've read that the antenna for the walkman doesn't always get clear reception. I have also seen where people are putting the antennas on their heads. Now there's a sight. And that goes for the docking home kits and boom boxes. You need a clear shot of a southern sky for decent reception. I have a Clarion for my car and like it. But it doesn't come with any boom box attachment. My home kit works just so so. I never listen to local radio. If Howard Stern is someone you enjoy, he will be on Sirius for free in 2005. XM charges an added fee for their "shock jock" station. If you like football, get Sirius. They offer all the games. XM will carry all the games for baseball. Sirius also offers the same price as XM if you buy a yearly plan. In short. I love it.

XM= 2% of Clear Channel, which I guess is enough for some folks, but they don't out and out own XM.
Still, I plan on switching to Sirius for the NFL, AAR and Howard Stern.

Mostly because it will carry baseball, but also because the head of Sirius is a big RW Bush supporter (according to an article two weeks ago in Newsweek).

21. Baseball - my major frustration

My reception SUCKS for the local radio station that carries the phils, so we were excited to find out that MLB can be had on satellite radio. I was also thinking of getting satellite radio to get AAR, and now I find out we have to choose between AAR and the Phillies.

We have a tiny apt., and one thing that keeps my SO and I sane is being able to sit out on the deck at night during the summer and listen to the Phils.

This is a painful choice!

and a search of campaign contributions shows that he gives almost exclusively to Democrats.
