The NBA slapped the Minnesota Timberwolves' Latrell Sprewell with a one-game suspension on Tuesday for yelling a sexual vulgarity at a female fan.

Sprewell made the comment during Minnesota's game against the Los Angeles Clippers on Saturday and was heard on broadcasts because a courtside microphone picked it up.

"Our policy is that you can't do it," said NBA spokesman Tim Frank. "When you do it, you're going to get suspended."

Sprewell was to miss the Timberwolves' game Tuesday against Dallas.

It's not the first time Sprewell has drawn the ire of the NBA.

He was suspended for one year, although later reduced to 68 games, for choking coach P.J. Carlesimo at practice in 1997 when he played for the Golden State Warriors.

In December 2003, Sprewell was fined $25,000 US by the league for cursing at New York Knicks chairman James Dolan and screaming at the team's bench.

In 1999, Sprewell was fined $10,000 for making profane remarks to fans during a game.

Funny. I probably watch about 2 games worth of Clippers games in small chunks each season and just happened to tune in for the last few minutes of this one which is when it happened.

For the curious, he invited the person (who couldn't be seen on TV) to engage in oral copulation of a part of his anatomy useful for procreation.

Also amusingly, the commentators made no reference to it at all despite it being so loud as the microphone must've been like three feet away.
