BASIC and Jbuilder (or similar) for linux?
I'm tempted to get into programming again but have seen how much these compiler apps cost for Windows.

Are there similar programs for Linux, particularly on the Java side?

1. Maybe you should take a look at XBasic
I haven't used it, but it looks pretty good.
