Woman Gets Threatening Letter After Hanging Up On Telemarketer

A Detroit-area woman received a threatening letter in the mail after hanging up on a telemarketer calling from Texas, according to Detroit TV station WDIV.

Jill Beyer, of Waterford Township, Mich., said she received the letter about one week after she refused to donate money in a recent call from a telemarketer.

"He wanted a donation for the veterans' association, which the veterans don't get that much of that money. That's why I wouldn't donate to him," Beyer said.

Beyer (pictured, left) said the man refused to take no for an answer so she hung up the phone.

"I slammed the phone very hard," Beyer said.

The letter arrived postmarked from El Paso, Texas. The first lines read,

"Jill Beyer,

Before you are rude to another telemarketer, you should keep in mind that he or she has your phone number and your address.

Many of them live in your own state and most don't give a (expletive)!

So, Ms. Beyer, the next time a telemarketer calls and you don't want to be bothered, a simple "not interested" will do.

Your son or daughter or next-door neighbor's daughter could very well be a telemarketer. A handicapped, wheelchair-bound person could be a telemarketer. A biker or ex-con is more likely to be a telemarketer. You really, really shouldn't (expletive) with them!

As they say in the telemarketing industry, "Have a good day Ms. Beyer!"

"It makes me nervous. Obviously he's not playing with a full deck and even my kids are nervous," Beyer said.

El Paso police are reportedly taking the threat seriously and are searching for the person who sent the letter.

the guy that sits outside Sam's Club in El Paso, drives a run down SUV with Bush stickers all over it, and parks in the handicap slot. They fun raise all the time for "Veterans". I'll ask him next time I'm over there.

3. If it's any consolation to those dealing with weird telemarketers,

Congress decided to let telemarketing firms call people on the No Call list, IF they use a pre-recorded message and computer generated calls to do it. So the telemarketers are likely to be outta work soon. Odd that, their employment security was used by the firms as an argument against the No Call List in the first place. So now, they can ignore the No Call List AND lay off workers.

4. Yikes! This is exactly why I don't like phone solicitation.

I always answer my telephone in a businesslike tone of voice. "Good morning/afternoon/evening. _____ residence." If I don't recognize the voice or they ask for us in a manner which screams telemarketing I can always respond, "I'm sorry. May I take a message." You'll notice there is no lie there. 99 times out of 100 I get, "No thank you, we'll call back." No clue if they do or not.

5. And yet all Congress can worry about is silly things.... how about

passing some laws about how information is used there Critters? No? Oh, sorry, you are just as guilty as everyone else, huh?

Do you know how much info about each of us has been sent overseas due to outsourcing? Medical transcriptions, mortgage and other loan processing, and the processing of your Federal Tax returns all have a good chance of being done by private corporations which outsource much of the work. All your private info is bouncing off satellites to places you don't know about. Sure seems likely some data could get into the wrong hands.

We are a whole lot less safe than we used to be, period!
