Have you seen "Mr. Smith goes to Washington"??
It is scary how true to life that movie is to our situation today. Corruption, Yellow Journalism, and Physical intimidation are used as political tools. Its a must see!!!!!!!!!!!

2. Saw it a few months ago on Turner Classic Movies
Great movie. Both corny and tough at the same time. Great movie. Freepers outght to be chained to chairs and forced to watch it, to remind their sorry asses what this nation is supposed to be about, and what it's NOT supposed to be about.

7. What kind of store is that?!
No "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington," but I'll bet they have copies of "Dude, Where's My Car?" The country is surely doomed! :-)

Anyway, you can probably get it elsewhere, perhaps Netflix or Interlibrary Loan. Maybe your local PBS station could run it; they sometimes do air classic movies.

If you have Turner Classic Movies, check the schedule for times.

5. I saw it for the first time in August on
Turner Classic Movies...what a great movie! True to life portrayal of how the "free" press can take a story and manipulate it to benefit the wealthy.

6. See it for many reasons.
I was lucky enough to see it in the theater when they reissued it some years back (I think it may have been 1989). The story is still as relevant as it was in the 1930s.

It's also pure pleasure due to its cast and the use of D.C. locations. I'm fairly sure they did use actual site footage.

That said, don't forget the other political movies of the 1930s through the 1950s, such as "The Farmer's Daughter," which promotes liberal views, and "State of the Union," which features a progressive REPUBLICAN candidate. Do check those out. TCM will run them, and you can probably get copies at your video store or library.

8. Absolutely
I was just watching it on TV on Saturday. AMC, or maybe it was TCM.

In a way, it's sad to watch. One can't help but wonder if there are any like Mr. Smith who are in Congress today. If there are, it's not nearly enough to actually be effective.

Times sure have changed
