What is your favorite Poker variation?

I like Texas Hold 'em, Omaha and 7 card stud (it depends on the mood I am in which one I want to play)
I don't like wild card games as much, although baseball is ok

I usually negative bluff--or slowplay at first and let someone else start the big betting. If no one takes the bait, then I open up

It's not really "poker" at least in the classic sense of betting against other players. We'd usually play a hand or two at the end of the evening, when the beer was about gone, and the wits were pretty dulled.

Each player antes up a buck and is dealt four cards. You then bet as to whether you can beat the next card off the top of the deck in its suit. You must bet at least the minimum (usually a buck) or up to the contents of the pot. Once someone bets the pot and wins, the hand is over. If no one wins the first go-round, the cards are re-shuffled and re-dealt, and everyone antes up another buck.

If you have a crappy hand (no paint, or two suits not covered), you're pretty sure you're just throwing in your dollar, and building the pot. Of course, every now and then, you win and curse the luck. Other times, you think you've got everything covered and an ace comes off the top and suddenly the $30 pot is $60, and nobody's very interested in the possibility of losing sixty bucks all at once on the turn of one card. (I'm talking here about a friendly game of poker, where everyone comes out within ten bucks of even.)

I once took an $80 pot in Montana Red Dog (got dealt three kings), and can't remember ever having less fun winning. Stay away from this game.

I think both, would approve of that. I love Doyle's statement on pocket aces.
Pocket aces will win you some little hands and cost you some big ones.
Doyle's a private game player, something he excels at. He seems to have more trouble with the tournament play. It's hard to bluff someone out of a hand in tournament play, when the worst that can happen is they walk away with Fourth place and 150000 dollars.

I used to always bet big on pocket aces and I lost a lot of money doing that
But I have also won big hands with them too

There are sections about stuff like Razz and Draw that I never bothered with
I also find it hard to translate set principles into a good game--you have to read the table as you go. A 2 and a 7 unsuited can be the nut hand in Texas Hold 'Em sometimes

Only if i get a cheap flop. I'll take a boat 7s over any time.

31. I would never play that on an expensive flop

but it does work if you get to see the flop for free or on the cheap. I still hesitate about throwing any money in on a trash hand, because once you start putting money in the pot, you want to fight for it (or at least i do)
If I have trash, I will fold as soon as it looks like it is going to cost me. I play real tight usually. Most of the guys i play with are loose players
