Need some travel suggestions...

In October we're taking a week vacation. Because we have the grrrrl's at home we can't do more than take day trips. Last year we visited about 63 different small towns. We just get in the car and go. Wherever we end up is where we go. It's fun. We ended up at the Mall of America in Minnesota last year. I got to pet a shark and a ray. THAT was cool.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to where a nice day trip from Milwaukee, WI might take us?

3. Probably Two Days

I'm not really sure about the distances, but it is a cool town, with a cool 'primitive' art installation with a real preserved corpse!

5. That's how we normally take our day trips.

Point the car in a direction.

When we get to a split in the road we each take turns choosing a direction.

We've seen some interesting places.

In New Franken Wisconsin there is a bar called the New Franken Stein.

6. Rent, borrowt, trade or swap a cat sitter.

Then REALLY get out to see the world.

Can't imagine being tethered to a house by pets. I have 3 dogs and we work out dogsitting, housesitting and swapping of their care while we travel.

Went to europe for a month over the summer, off to china for 10 days over thanksgiving.

Doncha have a lotta beer factories there?

10. OH YEAH!

We've seen the Chalet of the Golden Fleece museum and many other things there. THAT was a fun trip.

Then it was off to Mt. Horeb for the Mustard Museum.

8. Top up the food and water bowls and...

... go to the Shawnee National Forest in deep southern Illinois. This is truly one of the best kept secrets in the country: rolling hills, hardwood forests, quaint small river towns, Southern charm and manners (the South truly begins at I-64 in Illinois), lovely bed-and breakfast places, 300+ years of history (Ft. Massac, Kaskaskia Island, Cave in Rock State Park), etc., etc. . It's only a 6 1/2 hours from Milwaukee, and WELL worth the drive! :)

P.S.--- It's also one of the most Democratic areas in the country (80+%), so you'd be spending your money with FRIENDS! :bounce:

9. St. Louis

We stopped there on our way back from CO. What a great, underrated town. The City Museum is one of the ccoolest, oddball museums I've ever visited. http://www.citymuseum.org/ I'm sure you could make it there in a day. 6 or 7 hours at most. We made it back to Detroit in 9, and I figure Milwaukee has to be closer.

11. Also a good suggestion

They could combine it with a trip to Southern Illinois. Shoot yourselves straight down I 55 to St. Louis for a day or two, then pick up the River Road (IL Rt. 3) and head south to the Shawnee Forest! :)
