I actually got sick to my stomach the day they executed Timothy McVeigh. And that was certainly a guy who deserved it! But I remember thinking, "Why am I feeling sad that this asshole is getting what he deserves?" But I just did. It felt wrong.

The day Timothy McVeigh was convicted was the day I turned against the death penalty. I had no doubt he was guilty, but as I saw them interview the people outside, I realized that the death penalty was all about victims screaming for blood, and not about justice. They'd have executed anyone for that crime if they couldn't have found McVeigh.

There is no hard evidence that Peterson killed his wife.

Does my common sense tell me he did it? Yes, it does...but there really isn't any hard scientific PROOF that he did it.

I doubt very highly that the man is innocent and I hold no respect for the way he conducted himself, but after hearing all the evidence in the trial, I still have reasonable doubts that he is guilty.

Before he even spends a year in prison he is already going to regret killing Laci, if he doesn't already. Thing is too bad, he should've thought about the consequences before committing such a terrible crime. Now he must(should) live with the guilt and loneliness for the rest of his entire life.

One thing to point out, if christianity is right, all he has to do is repent and get saved before he is killed by the state and he will enter the pearly gates of heaven. Is Justice served? If it isn't true, then he will just disappear, turn into a ghost, or come back to life in another lifeform(whatever you believe). I ask again is justice served?

He may be guilty but there were no signs of the abuse (verbal and emotional if not physical) that usually presage a killing like this. Scott never isolated Laci from her friends and family, was not controlling of what she did, where she went, what she wore, etc.

Ok, he had an affair. Whoopee. He didn't seem sufficiently devastated by Laci's death. Well, I've known people who were inwardly torn apart but seemed totally cold on the outside. I looked that way myself when my mother died...like I didn't give a shit that she was dead. Even went swimming the day she was buried.

Yes, he dyed his hair and went elsewhere. Wouldn't you want some relief if the press had been as relentless toward you? Stupid again, but I can understand it.

Maybe he did kill his wife and child. But I just have this knot in my stomach that says that if the state kills him, we'll later find out that it really was someone else after all.

It just feels like he was convicted for being an asshole and not because there was really solid proof that he was a murderer.

I oppose the death penalty on principle, but listening to some of the details about the crime today, the argument the prosecutor made, and the fact he LAUGHED when his mother said they were putting up signs to look for Lacey, it caused to to question whether he might just not deserve it.

i am against the death penalty absolutely IN THIS CASE because they did not have any slam dunk absolute forensic evidence. it was highly convincing circumstantial evidence but not dna, fingerprint,witness,dental or any scientific evidence that proved it.

suffer everyday for the rest of his live. It obviously appeared to me that Scott wanted to be with another woman so he thought if he killed and dumped his wife he would once again be "free" to go after another woman. With life in prison... he now has NO woman and will have to spend the rest of his life in a inclosed building with hardcore criminals with plenty of time to think about his decision. JUSTICE WILL BE SERVED, it won't bring back Laci but niether will killing Scott. The Death Penalty in this case imo is letting him off the hook for the man hours in a human zoo he will have to face for the rest of his life.

As far as your post, I agree. The thought of anyone's life in the hands of justice system(as flaud as it is) seems, I don't know what word to use. I just don't think the justice system should be in the position of sentencing people to death. As far as deciding whether someone should spend time behind bars, on probation(parole), or be set free I have no problem with. I will admit, serial rapists and murderers who don't feel an ounce of remorse for their actions make it very difficult to be against the death penalty.
