I put my doggy down today and my heart is broken
She was 19 and the sweetest thing in the world. Unfortunately her health was worsening with every day gone. LAst 24 hours she did not eat or drink water and was just staring at me with her big sad eyes.

I took her to the vet, he examined her and told me the time has come. She was just too old and tired of living.

God bless her soul. RIP my little doggy.

4. I Know I Will Feel The Same When My Golden's Time Comes
Edited on Tue Sep-23-03 10:49 AM by heidiho
I read a story once about a man who told of his dog's death and he said
"I don't just feel sad, I feel maimed, because I've lost such a big
part of me."
We dog lovers share your grief today. Unconditional love, loyalty and devotion don't come from human beings - they come from our dogs.

Please read the book "Dog Heaven" by Cynthia Rylent. It will make you feel happy inside.

35. Tell Us About Her
The hardest part is coming back to your house and looking at her bowl of water and thinking that she won't be taking another drink out of it.

Please tell us about her and what was it like when you first got her.

It helps to remember her believe me it helps.

I lost 7 pets within a two year span. They were all around the same age and they all had long and love filled life's. It hurts so bad to lose your babies and we know what you are going through.

My Ramona needs to be put down but I don't have the heart to do it. I commend you for having the nerve to go through with it.

She was loved dearly and you need to talk about the good times. I know it helps.

12. So Sorry. But, You Did The Right Thing
It's so hard to decide when you're keeping them alive for them, or keeping them alive for you, isn't it? We have experienced this 4 times in the last 10 years or so. It's a bummer, but we've always gotten through it.

Best of luck to you.

27. 19 wonderful years
I know that loss. My condolences to you. You had a wonderful companion for 19 years and the heartbrek of losing a dog is unlike anything else. At times people feel the loss of a pet with more intensity than they feel the loss of a person. Unconditional love in its purest form comes from a dog. I am learning that again as my wife and I now have a 5 month old Yorkie. All good things to you.

Most people have been where you are, and even though it hurts like hell, there is no way around it.. We love them too much to watch them suffer :(

You had 19 years which is 6 more than most people get with a dog..

Someday, a bedraggled little doggie will wander your way, and you'll be hooked all over again ...

Hang in there

When my poor old Rosie died, I was so sad. I know not everybody is like this, but I went to the Humane Society within a week to get a puppy, and Katie did cheer me up and kept me busy training her, so I didn't lay in my house crying for too long.

what a horrible thing to have to do.

But take comfort in knowing that you did the right thing for your girl.

It's been said that the only fault dogs have is that they don't live long enough. S'true.

When you feel the time's right (or even a little before that) get a pup. It's not a replacement - just a source of joy to ease your heart.

I put my dog down last year (almost 15 yo). It was the best decision I really hated making.

I could see in her eyes that she knew it was time to go. It is a very heart breaking moment, but as with all pain, time does heal the wounds.

Hang in there and think of all of the great times that I'm sure you had together in those 19 years.

Cheers

34. god bless you. helping her hurt you, this is the truest form of love.
i have had to do it twice and each time i held my 4 legged friend's head in my hands, wanting the last thing she saw to be me.

i now have an 11 year old kuvasz who is slowing down rapidly and i know each day with her is more precious than the last.

what i have learned is to treat her now today the way i know i would have wished i did when she passes on.

A Tribute to a Dog

"The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his worst enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name, may become traitors to their faith.

"The money that man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it the most. A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads.

"The one absolutely unselfish friend that a man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him and the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous... is his dog.

"A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer, he will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince.

"When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens. If fortune drives the master forth an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him to guard against danger, to fight against his enemies, and when the last scene of all comes, and death takes the master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by his graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even to death."

From a speech delivered in 1870 by Missouri's Senator George Graham Vest, lawyer for the plaintiff in a suit against a man who had killed his dog. Vest won the case.

i will be hugging all 6 of my doggies tonight thinking of your loss.

peace.

I am so very sorry. The pain of loosing a prescious "furry baby" is a pain that one can't know until they experience it themselves. I never had animals in my adult life until 1995 when a friend gave me a precious kitten - Haley. She was the most perfect critter I've ever known. On 1/11/01 I came home from work and she had passed away on the couch - I still don't know why since she was only 6 years old. I have NEVER known such heartbreak. I was so distraught I had to stay with friends for a week. I found GREAT comfort in The Rainbow Bridge. I know right now your angel and mine are happily frolicking together (in Heaven, dogs and cats LOVE each other!). Please take care of yourself and do what's best for you. I got another kitty that same year.
