What's the biggest animal you ever killed?

I've killed all kinds of bugs and spiders.

When I was a kid, I shot a sparrow with my BB gun. An off-duty cop saw me do it, read me the riot act, and scared me away from ever trying again.

I hurt a frog once, too, but I don't know if it died.

I also threw fireworks on a snake in a tree hole so it would come out and my dad could shoot it (we were afraid it might come out and bite us - - - if was just a few feet away from a weekend cabin we had in the country).

I shot a couple of squirrels, too.

I did all of these things as a child. I don't like hunting or killing. Now, I even pick up spiders in the house with a paper towel and throw them into the backyard. I can't stand to see animals suffer.

Dressed out to about 165 lbs. I used to really like hunting when I was younger, but I just don't have the heart to do it now that I'm older. I'd rather shoot deer with a camera now instead of a rifle.

Stupid psycho cat (and yes, she was seriously psycho) jumped into the drying machine when I was putting clothes in. Later on, when I emptied the drier, I thought it was a stuffed animal as it felt just like one when I pulled it out unknowningly.

Boy, did that accident destroy me for quite some time. I was only 7 or so when it happened.

I landed that sucker after an hour and a half battle 60 miles out in the gulf stream about two years ago. I had some of the best sushi i've ever had that night, and had fish steaks for months. A friend even smoked about 50 lbs. in his smoker for some awesome tuna jerky.

My arms were dead for a week after that fishing trip. That's a helluva lot of fish to land on hook and line.

On land, the biggest thing i've probably killed would have been a seagull. Like a crow, it spotted some roadkill or old french fries or something in the road, and landed right in front of me while I was driving about 40 miles an hour. There was no avoiding hitting it. Poor thing. When I inspected the frontend of the car a few blocks away, it looked like i'd hit a down pillow.

... when I was still eating meat. Pigs, sheep and poultry, too, even some horse. Myself, on purpose, a rabbit that was to be eaten. A friend couldn't do it, so I killed and skinned it. As a kid, I also helped when animals were butchered at some relatives farm.

Now, I don't eat any meat, only very rarely some fish. And I couldn't kill animals any more, except in emergency - with the exception of mosquitoes.

By accident, I once killed a hedgehog - ran it over with my bicycle at night. Very sad, because I like them a lot.

It all depends on your culture.

Actually, in the Germanic culture (which is my ancestry), horses were considered sacred, but their meat was eaten in rituals. It's said that the church when trying to suppress pagan rituals, forced a taboo on horse meat in most Germanic/Nordic cultures.

It's considered gross to eat horses in many countries, in others (like France), it's fairly common. In Germany, many people would never it it, and most consider it to be inferior, which it actually is not. I only ate it three of four times, just to try it, and I remember it (after many, many years) as very lean and quite tasty.

Like all other meat, I wouldn't it it today.

but I am a horse lover first and foremost. What is strange is that horses are considered companion animals in France and Belgium. In most cultures, eating companion animals is taboo. Even cultures that eat dogs differentiate between pet-types and eating types. I'm sorry, I have a lot of respect for France and Belgium, but the fucking horse eating has GOT to stop. I realize most of the meat comes from the US, and I try to do what I can from my end of things....

On my way to work one morning, driving a bit too fast, a pheasant was all of a sudden crossing the road in front of me and I couldn't stop fast enough.
After locking up my brakes, I looked up in my rear view mirror and all I saw was a big puff of feathers.

It upset me so badly, I cried all the way to work.

He was a 2200 lb Brangus Bull I'd had for 9 years, he started getting big tumors on his neck and head ( LUMPY ) The vet said the best thing to do was put him down. He never felt a thing. He was the one that always tried to stick his head in the truck, when ever i stopped to feed. His oldest son is still on the place, doing what good bulls are suppose to do.

29. I accidently hit a squirrel once and stood in the street

bawling my eyes out. A kind gentleman came to my aid...poor thing was so visibly upset at the sight of a woman crying that he was shaking. He got me back to my car and asked me not to look back. The squirrel wasn't all the way dead...yet. His back was broken. I looked back.

I shouldn't have looked back.

31. Hit Two Animals With My Car In The Past

One squirrel, one kitty cat. Both times i was on a highway doing 55. Both times, it was dusk, so i didn't see them at roadside in time.

The squirrel is got over fairly easily, figuring the whole Darwinian thing and all. But, the kitty cat shook me up BADLY! Man, i wish people would keep their little beasties stricly indoors unless leashed. Then, that wouldn't have happened. But, hitting that kitty, while i really couldn't do much about it, BUMMED ME OUT!

Texas Hill Country in 1992. Dressed about 150 (really big for the Hill Country---most 'big' Texas deer are South Texas)

My father and I make venison sausage from our deer. That fed me well for many months. When we have a successful deer season, I can almost go a whole year without buying grocery store meat.

39. I've killed two deer in self defense.

The first one in my van. Two deer in the middle of the road about 4 feet apart standing still. I'm doing 50 and nowhere to go. I took the one on the right. The second one jumped in front of my motorcycle at 60 MPH. I decapitated that sucker. I am convinced he was trying to kill me and he damn near suceeded.
